People talk about Venezuela as though this collapse was sudden. It wasn't. A good rule of thumb for societal collapse is the same as that for bankruptcies, slowly, and then all at once. Things degrade over time, getting steadily worse, but there are enough resources to keep going. Then the tipping point is reached, and everything falls apart. The problems and issues were there for ages, but it's only once the tipping point is reached that they are crystallized.

Venezuela is such a sad case. With its natural resources it could be "norway of south america".

I’m an old school democratic socialist. I watch TriggerNometry among other sources, because I want to hear what the right wing thinks, rather than how the Guardian / BBC wish to characterize them.

Some of it is nonsense, but I’m cool with that.

This particular video though, on it’s own, is a major fail. It might be entirely factually correct. But to discuss Venezuela as an economic failure without mentioning the US has placed an economic blockade on them is like pretending the victim of an assault was self-harming.

There has been an explosion of
reports, dovetailing with a very active attempt to stage a coup there.

The solution the neocons propose is ‘How about we install another Pinochet type puppet government and we take over your oil?’

Call me cynical, but that’s just ultrabollox.
