In my opinion, GTA 3 had the most meaty gun sound effects of the series. As someone who loves AK platform rifles, I feel that GTA 3 nailed the sound of 7.62×39. It's a shame that Rockstar toned down all the sound effects after this to encourage the player to wield a Magnum Revolver or a Desert Eagle. It is especially noticeable in GTA San Andreas, where the guns sound like throwing a pencil at a wall.
