Hi there, you are absolutely right! Milk creates a coating on the cords that forms mucous. If you are a serious singer, I would recommend reducing your dairy and sugar intake. These are the WORST food choices you could make for your vocal cords.

Great content. Tea is absolutely essential to soothe the throat and comfort, with licorice root.

Yeah, that's a good observation!

Excellent advice to follow always, daily, religiously. Pretty much all processed food has sugar in it. A good rule to follow is to only shop the perimeter (the areas which make the outside walls produce, fish, meat, dairy (if you eat the last two)) of the grocery store and, never shop when you're hungry. Obviously you have to go down the aisles for staples like UNREFINED salt, brown rice, quinoa, oils etc... But, don't make it a habit of shopping for processed foods, they'll kill you!

Great question, beeonkavlog! Fruit actually has natural sugars, nothing added to them. They also have other things that are good for you when you are sick--fiber, antioxidants, etc. Just make sure you balance them with the other things mentioned in the video and you'll be great!

Thanks for the video, great tips! I was wondering about spicy foods? Are they okay to eat before singing? Thanks!

When sick the best thing to drink is simple - water. The more hydration your body has, the quicker it can rid the body of toxins.

As to sugar - yes avoid when sick, but don't think you need to avoid it overall. Sugar is fine in acceptable amounts. Remember to stay hydrated from water or fruit juices. The voice LOVES hydration from natural (no sugar added) fruit juices and watery fruit like apples, peaches, mangoes, watermelon, celery, asparagus etc.

Avoid caffeine and alcohol on singing days

Hi Sofie,
I drink a lot of coffee and creamer. I have this "gargling" sound when I sing. It doesn't sound like a break just like I'm gargling. Any ideas? I'm wondering if its mucous from drinking the creamer.
