This is our homemade DSLR rig for my Canon T2i Rebel camera. We have a follow focus, matte box, and monitoring system mounted on a DIY rail system. Total cost around $100. Works great

Really nice rig, and I really like the follow focus, except I would maybe paint it black (just to make it look more professional I guess) and also I'm not sure what the purpose of the external monitor is for? the resolution is probably a lot poorer than what's on the t2i (nice camera choice btw) and it looks smaller too. The only reason i can think of for why it's there is because the screen on the camera is probably too far back. but nice setup though man!

@pianomanbd The monitor is used because many DSLR's don't come with articulated (movable) LCD screens. When shooting movies with your DSLR, you need to be able to move the rig around to get various shots (high, low, etc.). So having this external screen makes it easier to see what you are filming, so you don't have to have your eyes directly behind the camera, while filming difficult angles. My rig has this same screen attach to a ball tripod head so it can be moved around easily.

@chattemer Thanks....that is helpful Im going to go to radio shack and get a charger and pack combo right now! I almost purchased the 7inch haier... however the size and added weight on my rig was not appealing to me so I opted for the smaller lighter one... also it works great for my smaller run and gun handy rig, they are both standard deff so the viewing quality is the same. Thanks for the response!

@212Photography Well my battery on this lasts about 2-3 hours and I have 3 extras. You can usually find those RC batteries for really cheap so if you have a few to use, you can switch them out when needed. I recently upgraded to the Haier 7-inch monitor. It is bigger and cheaper than the one shown here and the batteries last a bit longer!!

@DSLRCARBON it is actually kind of heavy, which is why since this rig I have modified and re-designed the rails system. I will eventually upload a new video showing off my new DIY Rig. Subscribe to stay updated!

Question about how you are powering your monitor. With the 9.6v battery pack... I have a similar monitor that I just purchased for my t2i rig, I was thinking about using the same power source...however, how long does it power your monitor for being that it is a 12v monitor and a 9.6v battery? 8 double A's and it only powered my monitor for maybe an hour straight... not very long... how does yours last?
