$12 CHEAP DIY DSLR Shoulder Rig
Heres a quick DIY video on How To Create Your Own $12 DIY Sholder Mount / Rig that works very well. It took only about an hour to an hour-and-a-half to make not including dry time. I only had to buy the PVC piping, elbows and t's for this project as I already had PVC cutters/Saw and PVC cement (cement is fairly cheap).
What You Need: (all 3/4 in.)
2 - 4ft. PVC pipes or 1 - 10ft piece
4 - PVC T's
4 - 90 degree Elbows
1 - Wingnut Screw (1/4" - 20 x 1 1/2")
1 - Can of PVC Cement
1 - Saw Or PVC Cutter
Optional:
4 - PVC End caps
2 - PVC Couplings
Putting it together:
1) Cut both 4ft PVC to the same length that you want your rig to be.
2) Lie the two pieces you cut down next to eachother and lie 2 t's at the end, Measure a small pice of PVC that would fit in between the T's, Mark and Cut out 4 small pieces (all the same length) from one of your extra PVC pieces that your not going to use for your rig.
3) Attach the t's, 3 of the small pieces, PVC pipes (length), and 4 - 90 degree elbows.
4) Stick one of the extra unused PVC pipes into an elbow on the side with the 2 t's attached. Measure out how long you want your handles to be. Mark and cut, then cut another of the same length. There you have your handles.
5) Use one of the other unused PVC pipes into the 90 degree elbows in the back or your rig. Measure preferred lenth, mark, cut. Then do the same on another piece so that you have two equal pieces for your backing.
6) Attach remaining 2 T's with remaining Short PVC piece that we made in the beginning. Then attach the 2 T's to the pieces from the backing in the last step (5). (The two t's allows you to feed things through the piping for counter weights.) See Below.
7) Flip the rig over so that the handles and backing are on the ground and drill a 1/4" hole all the way through whichever side of the two PVC lengths. (I chose right because I have a 600d Tilty screen). Then Stick Wingnut through the hole (with washers if necessary).
8) Your all done putting it together! Now Glue every piece back together (don't glue the Wingnut Screw). Let it dry 1 hour and BOOM! You have a very cheap Shoulder rig that works Well. You can spray paint it any color you like if you choose.
Enjoy
NOTE: I payed $12 for the materials. You may have to pay more or less depending on how much of the equipment you own.
The reason I used t's on the back was so that counter weights could be added to stablize the Rig even more.
Also: I did not add any comforter to this rig if you want it to be more comfortable then add some pipe insulation to the outside of each piece that would be against you.
Warning: I am not liable for any equipment damaged or bodily injury from using this device.
Thanks for Watching!
