Just by looking at them closely it's obvious that they're giant tree stumps. The ones with the flat tops which they call mesas were the good trees that were cut down cleanly, however, some that weren't as good had to be torn away or blasted, none of them is mountain in fact, they're the petrified remains of the giant trees which we know as rock, mountains, however, are not rock but are piles of loose excavated waste.
