Today I am testing out a Canon SD1000 that my dad gave me. He had this camera lying around for years and I was so stoked to test it out. Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

I first picked up this camera for $7 with charger, sd card, bag, and extra battery at my local thrift store. I used it to record my hs graduation, after the first one breaking I've picked up 2 more since then. Now currently have given my last working one to my father as I lost one of his point and shoot. For what it is, this camera will always have a place in my heart! It has been interesting seeing the resurgence and increased price of them. I used to be able to pick them up with box for $35 a pop.

my dad passed recently and I got this camera from him, I remember him taking a lot of photos with it when I was a kid and I'm excited to use it for myself and look through the old pictures he took with it back in the day

FWIW, the Powershot SD750 is the same camera for half the price. It doesnt have the VF, but you get a larger 3" screen.

I bought one back new in 2007, nice little camera for the time. Still have it and works like a pro.

I loved it for selecting 4:3 ratio for this video, it gives that classic feel

Great. I have used Canon IXUS 120 and 190, they are small but fantastic machines.

I use a Canon ELPH 190 IS and it takes excellent pictures. Canon makes good cameras and they still know what their doing.

Thank you for the video.

You are spot on my friend. I love old model CCD sensor cameras and actually bought three used digicams recently at nominal prices. Those are Canon PowerShot A470, S2 IS and A3400 IS. Prefer the first two due to their low resolution which I really like. Sure they replicate film photos. Now, wherever I go especially to friends and family gatherings; I use these cameras. Using them is real joy. It’s like yesterday once more. I used them first in 2008. Subsequently, started my journey with DSLRs since 2009 that continues till date. But recently felt the necessity of digicams again as the smartphone photos and options failed to impress me. So, back to digicams for casual use.

I shoot landscape and wildlife with pro DSLRs and L lenses. But doing daylight street photography with the pocket digicams now instead of DSLRs.

One thing is certain. The digicams are not suitable for low-light and action photography.

I bought this camera brand new when it came out and it came everywhere with me. Once cameras on cell phones took over, this one got packed away. My 15 year old daughter is now talking about an "old" point and shoot she can carry around, and i dug around and found this guy. I've been adapting old M42 lenses to my Canon 5D Mk II, and I think thats sparked something for her too, so this video is perfect. Like, this is almost exactly like us. Thanks for sharing!

My SD1000 is my Aunt’s who forgot it at my house 8 years ago. It has only 42 pictures on it total, half are from a single party in 2010 and then she didn’t take another picture until 2016.

What people don’t realise is that the retro look mostly come from heavy editing. You can achieve the same effect shooting with an iphone or any other cameras nowadays

I am using my canon ixus 200 is that I got in my high school. I completely can relate that I rarely post or even process my iPhone 13 Pro photos, but canon camera is just so fun to play around with!

I don’t think that it’s worth to buy an old digicam for 70$+, but if you are able to find one for cheap, it can be a cool toy to play around with. Creates very cozy photos.

The reason you can't mechanical zoom during video recording is probably due to brushed servo motor doing the zoom, where they were afraid the motor brush noise could corrupt the memory, so it's possible that the card is put into intermittent write protect mode every time there is motor movement. In turn they didn't really have the space for more modern motor drive logic.

I have a late 90s camera which needs a lot of work, and motor EMI corrupting the camera is one of the several problems it has.

Another underrated contender is the SD800 IS. Its very similar in specs to the SD1000 with the addition of a wider 28mm view (SD1000 has 35mm) and Image Stabilization. The IS definitely helps.

I remember saving up for this as a teen and spending probably the most money i ever had on something. Hoping to be able to dig it up in my old storage.

I have my Sony t1 I got in 2005. Still use it. I just bought a Sony T7 off eBay. Demand is getting heavy for these obsolete cameras again because they are awesome

I've been going apes**t with my Powershot for the past couple of weeks, and the combo of color noise reduction (set between 20-30 in Lightroom) and subtle sharpening makes ISO 400 look great, and some cases ISO 800 comes out OK.

I used to sell cameras and lenses on eBay I probably had well over a hundred Canon point and shoots. I used or tested every single one of them with an indoor test and an outdoor test before putting it up for sale. You name the model I've probably had it, almost every SD model and S model. The Canon sd1000 is a really good one but there are others that cost a forth as much that take just as good of pictures. Also there are numerous Canon S models like the s50 s60 x s70 s80s s90 etcetera. That all shoot raw and have a larger sensor size and usually cost a lot less than the sd1000. I think the secret to these cameras is knowing what settings to use and never go over 200 ISO and you can still get good shots you just have to be more careful. Almost all of these Canon cameras take great photos the ones that are between 4 and 10 megapixels especially. Paying $125 or more for a Canon sd1000 I think it's a little nuts. Yes if you can get one at a thrift store for 25 or 30 bucks go for it but a lot of these Canon S cameras you can buy a for 30 to 50 bucks or so they are a far superior camera in several ways.

I really like the Panasonic LUMIX digicams. The TZ series and ZS series of digicams are amazing, I have one of each.
