How are grommets sized? By the hole diameter for the cordage, the hole for the grommet, or the very outer diameter of the grommet? I have a pair of Carolina workboots that I'd like to move the anchor points of where the laces pull from above the ankle. Carolina's lace-hooks are right at the edges of the leather and this causes the edges to curl under. From both the proximity and the fact that the laces are that much higher above the surface of the leather.

Also, when measuring the thickness, what are you getting in inches or mm that translates to the ounce equivalent? I'm a machinist, so measuring anything is easy. So is converting from inches to mm or vice-versa.
I also have interest in other leather working. I need to make some possibles bags for muzzleloader hunting. I just can't find what I want and need.

For most of us, when you tell us that the leather is 7 oz., that means nothing to us. We are not cutting to a certain size to weigh that piece of leather, to determine how many ounces. What we need to know is, How Thick Is It?
