The problem with rack toms NOBODY seems to talk about is that it's almost impossible to set them up (with all other ergonomics in mind which is the legs angle, the feet angle, the distance, the extension of arms) mounted on the bass drum. Everybody who speaks on ergonomics have additional tom holders so that the toms could be closer than when they are mounted but no one explains this thing, which has been buggering me for ages - whenever I sat behind the drums I felt uncomfortable playing toms because they are too far away and, if I moved closer - the legs felt uncomfortable as the angle is less than 90.
I think, that is the key principle here, that you should be aware of when setting up you drums.

Tosh peterson is the new "Travis" set up on the block, i cringe for his health when i see his set up, it would be interesting to see a video if you have any input.

Body's biomechanic is something I didn't really consider when setting up but makes so much sense now. We just model after others and ignore the stress and tear on body. This was so insightful

Good stuff. Thanks brother, keep it coming. 😎

The toms have to go in front of the snare drum.

Man, this is pure gold! All the videos I found about ergonomics are really vague explaining "why does it hurt". Excellent stuff!

So what's the solution for guys who play a double bass and have no other option but to put the hi hat there? Are there any exercises that can be done to strengthen or the only solution is to change the setup?

I use two bass drums and have a couple of different solutions for hi-hat position. First I use two hi-hats, one on each side, so I don't need to cross over to use the hi-hat if I don't want to. Second I also use remote/cable hi-hats, so where my hi-hat pedals are, doesn't dictate where my hi-hat cymbals are.

Its crazy how I wanted to look like a certain drummer by setting up my cymbals like there's!

What’s that drum kit? Also thank you for these videos. Changed my drumming for the better

Great video! Do you have any advice for left-handed drummers who don't cross their arms to play the hi-hat? I've always felt the hi-hat could be lower to match the height of the snare (or not be as high since I don't cross my arms) but then I worry about over extending the wrist.

Love watching these videos being a drummer and in process of getting my certification as a personal trainer. These are definitely useful that more drummers need to pay attention to
