Obsidian is for write about things that you already know, you are just storing your knowledge

Just add Excalidraw and you have best of both words. Mind maping on that is another level

I think you can build great learning machine from Obsidian. Canvas or excalidraw to mind mapping your knowledge, space repetition plugin to study that you already write, constantly link info to existing knowledge instead of writing from scratch. You can make Obsidian into anything you wanted. He probably talk about base obsidian program

Obsidian is amazing for storing information that you already know or have. As many say, use it like a second brain. Store information there and get it when needed. All of it to unburden our brain.

I don't know how developed Obsidian was when this video was posted, but now (November 2024) I can't think of anything that Obsidian can't do as a thought processing tool whether is for "linear" or "organic" notetaking.

How is obsidian enforcing linear note taking, tge whole purpose of the graph view is to have non-linear note taking...

That's a great insight. However, I wonder if you have any recommendations for what you consider a good note taking app for studying? Something that doesn't treat information as linear?

Having said that Obsidian may not be good for learning, I think it provides lots of flexibilities when using plugins. About learning, we can make use of Canvas, Graphs. It all depends on your learning style.

Wait, I'm new to obsidian, but isn't the best thing about it the fact that it can be not linear, as opposed to what you said? Like, it creates relation between the notes, you can actually see the graph with the connections and all.

its not the best for journaling. which is what i thought it would be good for. it made me sad.

Infact it is the best app for personal learning. You just don't have any idea what you are talking. It has dynamic connections which makes things much easier to understand together.
