I was picked on acx to do voice over for a manual it took me about 2 days, 4 hours and I made $844. Not a bad day. Love this idea!

As a professional recordist, I kindly suggest you get a few things to get started.

1. Solid microphone - condenser type - Audio Technica, or Shure are trusted. Run about $199-299.

2. Mixer - Tascam or Zoom.
Run about $199-299.

3. XLR cables - $19.99-$50. Don't skimp here, bad/ cheap cables produce a hum, and accept interference from wifi, or other wireless devices.

4. Laptop or Desktop, to edit, and editing software, a DAW would be helpful or Adobe Audition.

5. Storage - External or Cloud service. You gotta send those finished files to be approved for payment.

6. Regular blankets arranged around the space really eliminate most of the echo, and external noises, like a leaf blower. Well, any loud noises will be picked up by the mics, so a quiet space is essential.

Happy recording!

I literally just had a customer of mine tell me I have a voice for radio. Then basically told me that I was in the wrong business and should try to make money off my voice... keep killing it Kat!!! 🙏 😁

I teach voiceover recording and marketing to aspiring vo actors in Japan and this video would really help them get over their mental
blocks about the business and see having just minimum equipment is enough for making money!

This is a legit side hustle. I was a voice over artist very briefly when I was younger and it’s a fun job. Nothing beats hearing your own voice on radio at the neighbours. Instant celeb status 😀 I am going to add a list of side hustles as one of the videos to record on my channel soon. Thanks Kat

Very informative! Thank you! I just started auditioning with ACX about a month ago. I got my first job a few days after for a 3-hour audiobook. I don't have a professional studio. I record from my bedroom, with a blanket over my head. I also only used my built-in computer microphone. I just purchased a Yeti X Professional mic this week to enhance the quality of my future recordings, but I passed ACX standards in my bedroom, under a blanket & recording directly onto my computer. Nothing fancy needed for beginners. Also, the company loved my voice & will be sending me more work soon. I love it!

You give me hope! I'm a 51 year old women...when my husband I started our family...we decided I would stay home with the kids.... but now all the kiddos are grown... It's time to help prepare for our golden years! I've been feeling so hopeless 28 years at home... no degree... no experience. Not complaining! It is what it is. This gives me hope! I might actually be able to earn a income with no experience. I know this sounds ridiculous.... But 51 and no work experience or education is a scary thing. Thank you so much!

So glad that you clarified that there are other options for voiceover work as a beginner. I'm always getting compliments over the phone from clients who say I have a cool voice and that I should do voiceover work. I'm looking forward to exploring this side hustle! Thank You Kat!

Ive been an optician for 38 years and have loved my career and last week a patient told me that I had a great voice and asked if I have ever done radio, voice overs or audio books, I told her I never even thought about it, even though over the years Ive been told this before, but never thought about doing it. So here I am looking up videos on here and I came across your video, you are so full of
life, you should be in front of the camera on the big screen, I love your energy and you're so beautiful, the camera loves you!! Great video and so helpful with your tips on how to get started. Your
voice over done with your iPhone was perfect, who would know, couldn't even tell it was done on your phone. Love your channel and wish you more success. Thanks again for making these videos,
they are priceless. ; )

Kat thank you so much for helping so many of us out here that are looking for job's, are a change of careers.. Of course we all know, there's so many people that are doing well to even very well, and they never look back to pull someone else up. It's the smallest things that could help other people but they choose not to and the Bible said for those of us who have much much is required... God bless you and I asked him to continue to enlarge your territory🙏

Thank you for this video. I made the decision a few weeks ago to go into voiceover. I love audio and audible. It is all totally new to me but I am pushing forward. Got a new mic, the audacity app, and have been tinkering with sound. I appreciate these videos to us newbies!

Kat, I know you don't really make videos anymore. But I often come back to your videos to look over them. You were a HUGE inspiration for me to start working from home and start my own business. I work in 3D modelling now and I'll be doing a faceless Youtube channel shortly here.
I want to thank you for all the time you dedicated to making Youtube videos like you did. They're priceless informational pieces that I often share with people to this day who want to learn to work from home.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for what you did here. It was so integral to me learning how to swim on my own. You're amazing, and I hope whatever you're doing now is proving fruitful for you. I will forever be grateful.

Thanks for inspiring me to act on a dream I've had for a long time. I do the voiceovers for my church's announcements, volunteering my time. It certainly would be nice to make some $$ on the side.

Since you asked, I will say gross it defiantly brought shivers down my spine. Which means the microphone is great, it picked up so much! I got to get myself one of those! Great video!
