I can't believe they didn't go with that original opening scene. It would have been so much better and started the film off in exactly the right way.

JJ basically remade a New Hope twice. Once as Star Trek 2009 and again as 2015 Force Awakens. He is a one trick pony.

I was 8 in 1977. I can clearly remember seeing Star Wars (I still think of it as that, rather than "A New Hope". 😁) at the cinema. It completely blew my mind!
That opening shot of the star destroyer...I'd never seen anything like that!!
I still haven't.

Even though I agree that the prequels did overuse CGI a bit, they still have *ton* of practical effects that people tend to overlook. The practical effects in the PT are just a lot more subtle than in the OT or ST.

I love comparisons like this. I find that remakes/reboots are some of the best ways to learn about storytelling because the differences are so fine. You notice stuff you otherwise wouldn’t. Like there are great things about Psycho (1960) that even the biggest fans won’t appreciate until they see the remake of it.
I love this channel. As a screenwriter it helps a lot to get insight as to what could’ve been and to be able to compare it to what we got.

I always think it's funny how JarJar said he wanted to reintroduce star wars in a familiar way...by literally remaking the first movie.

Great content! I preferred the original opening to The Force Awakens, where Luke Skywalker's lightsaber floats aimlessly through space while still in the clutches of his perfectly preserved severed hand. As it enters Jakku's atmosphere, it picks up speed, effectively transforming itself into a sort of makeshift anvil torpedo which lands on Rey's head with the force of a thousand moons, killing her instantly.

There’s absolutely nothing unique about the sequel trilogy. Just a Disney crappy remake.

You know. I believe Force Awakens was just a soft reboot/loose remake of A New Hope. It did bare a couple of similarities. Rey living on the desert planet Jakku was written to mirror the beginnings of Anakin and Luke Skywalker's journeys as they both lived on the desert world Tattooine and that's where their adventures began.

There was a review by DX which comes to mind, you can’t replicate the same scenes / plot with different characters cause the context will be different.

It’s unfortunate how messy the sequels are as films. Most of the force awakens problems happen in the 3rd act, feeling very similar to ep4 but in doing so hampers it’s own story. Arguably once star killer fired the issues started to become more pronounced but yeah, really unfortunate. They cared more about being like the originals than doing something with their own story and it suffered for it.

Thank you for using the pre-special edition footage of the first film. Small detail, but people need to understand that 1977 Star Wars is the ONLY Star Wars.

The Sequels are basically the Anti-George Lucas movies made by Disney.

Same can be said with Terminator 1 and Terminator 2. They both have beginning fight scene with thugs to get clothes, motorcycle chase scene, truck chase, shoot out with police, factory scene ending.

I just watched, like, 10th video from you. I love your content on "What could have been..." on Batman, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Alien, The Hobbit, Ghostbusters.
I even remember reading about Ghostbusters 3's plans by Dan Aykroyd in early days of Internet in 2000s. I also read the Alien: Engineers script. It was entertaining to see your detailed update on all these.
It's surprising that there are so low Likes and Subscribes. I just did both. Wish you much success! 💙💯

A new Star Wars B&B vid?

A surprise to be sure… But a welcome one!

I actually loved the cgi and green screen of the Prequels. It’s what made them stand and bring out character

The Starkiller Base cannon destroying six or seven planets in one blast was over the top. Like, way-over the top of the top.
At least the sequels made me like the prequels more.
Maybe Jar Jar wasn't really that bad...

Yep when I saw this movie the first time I literally said this was nothing more than a reboot point for point but different characters and still feel this way now

1:20 I *was* fortunate enough to see Star Wars in 1977, and there's no need to explain to me "the sheer awe that swept over audiences." 🙂

Excellent video. More evidence JJ is a hack. Lack of originality, favouring questions he hopes to never have to answer; a massive BS artist
