DEAD Talks with David Ferrugio engages death a little bit differently. Each new guest shares their experience with grieving or perspective on death in a way that shatters the “don’t talk about death” taboo. Grief doesn't end, it evolves. Having lost his father on September 11th when he was 12 he learned the importance of discussion and sharing other people's stories. Grief, loss, death, mourning, trauma or whatever it may be, DEAD Talks Podcast hopes to make it a little easier to talk about. You may cry; but, you also may laugh.

I cannot say enough about hospice angels. They seem to always know when to laugh, to crack a joke, when to hold your hand and when to let you be alone. They give answers when they have them and say they don't know when they don't. And through it all, they provide such dignity to your loved one passing and to the family experiencing the loss. I will remain eternally grateful for the women that helped me and my family through the transitions. I'm sure there many wonderful men in the field, it is just in my experience they were all women. 🧡🧡🧡

I spent over 6 weeks with my late wife in a hospice. About 18hours a day with her, through the night. Mainly because she was scarred. There was lots of humour in the hospice. It's not that it's dark, the darkness comes from the situation. We laughed and cried, a lot.... wouldn't have it any other way.

Sleep well my beautiful lady, I still wear your ring. xxx

Working in the senior living home where I’ve seen people pass away with my own eyes personally it was very traumatic I no longer do that kind of work and now I know that it’s not right for me personally because I’m a very sensitive person but i salut the ones that can do it

I love working in hospice care. It's beautiful to see someone transfer to our real home.

I'm also a hospice nurse and you are completely right. I encourage my patients/families to have a party (literally), invite a lot of people, and CELEBRATE the life of the pt. For those who do this, it seems like it makes the dying process a bit easier on everyone. I had one pt who did this and it became a block party! The pt was able to see for themselves just how many people loved them, and cared about them, and have everyone tell a personal story about how the pt made such an impact and what a fantastic person they were. It honestly was amazing.

This reminds me of that Joey Diaz podcast.
Joey’s sister died while he was live and he coped with humor.

So, true! Every time someone significant died on me, I got something funny in my head. Example, my Dad was always late and his body was flown in later than expected and of course I point out he is late to his own funeral. 🙄🙃😆

Interesting she said that. I won’t disclose what I’ve been diagnosed with but my time clock has sped up drastically and all of a sudden I’m cracking all these dark jokes my wife hates 🤷🏾‍♂️

ER patient comes in asking us to trim his toenails. As he bends over to untie his shoes, he slumps to the floor. We do a code. He's gone. His bare feet are gnarly. "Fatal toe fungus, " the ER doc determines. Dark humor keeps you going for the next car crash or kiddie booboo.
