Worth the upgrade for me. Just because the food is the same as Economy isn't a deal breaker. More comfortable seats, lounge access, priority boarding and luggage handling are worth it. I rode ANA Premium Economy on the A380 Flying Honu and it was fine (more expensive than JAL PE actually), but JAL looks like a better value. I'll be riding JAL PE later this year.

The only issue I have with JAL economy is the hardness of the seats. Flew from Vancouver to Bangkok via Narita airport and my ass was sore for two days…I made sure I used my blanket as a cushion on the return flight…lol….The service on the other hand was exceptional

JAL offer business class lounge access to those who book an economy flex fare as well.

For the ticket price, I would stay with economy. However, I would try my luck for the upgrade at the airport. For the upgrade price, it seems alright, considering the long flight. My family and I have never had troubles with Japan Airlines. You might pay a little more than some of the other airlines, but you're paying for piece of mind and great service.

We are flying LAX to Narita. Round trip tix for 2 in PE was going to be $4, 100. Rounding tix for 2 in E is $2, 000. We went with Economy. We usually fly business when we travel to SE Asia because of the second leg of the trip. This is a direct flight into Tokyo and as the video shows, PE is not much more of a step up for twice the amount. Both PE and E have a 2x4x2 configuration so we can sit together without having a third person, regardless of the class.

My recent experience on JAL premium economy:
Seat: comfortable.
Food: not as good as I expected. Same as economy other than few more drinks such as sake.
Service: better than US carriers but not as good as other Asian carriers.

I'm a moderately tall person, so the regular economy is quite tight. On a fairly long slight, like the 16 hour Tokyo-> NY flight, it's absolutely worth the upgrade. The food s better in Business, but it's much more expensive and not worth it to me, unless my company is paying. That said, I find ANA premium economy even better, so if I can find similar prices, I'll choose the ANA flight. On the other hand, JAL goes to some cities like Tokyo->Boston that ANA doesn't. Either one is preferable to any US carrier, even compared to their Business class.

I’ve flown JAL business, PE, and unfortunately my next flight will be economy. Hope I survive

Nice one clarifying that 42 inches of seat pitch is 4 inches more than 38 inches of seat pitch ;-)

You mean to tell me, that I will reserve online 'Premium Economy JAL' including going directly to the Sakura Lounge and proceed directly to the plane ✈? What about the costs with Round-trip Premium Economy and is there needed for a 'membership lounge' or not necessary?

The JAL 787-9 PE cabin does not have 16 inch screens. Apparently more like 12 inches but perhaps someone can confirm.

I Like These Premium Economy Seats, I Like Your Video

You are stretching the fact that it has 42" of legroom but forget to tell people when since the seat dont reclune, the seat slide forward, and at the same time you are losing at least 2" of your legroom, so that is not that great, also their entertainment system is one of the worst, it has some really old movies and tv shows, and on top of that, it only has one episode of those tv shows anyway. Their wifi also sucks, they even show it on their wifi instruction card that wifi signals are the strongest when it is flying thru the ocean but not over US, which actually no signal at all for half of the flight, since it took 7 hours for the plane to exit Alaska

Worth the money. As long as I fly alone I’ll be able to book premium economy and I get access to Longe which United don’t do because they are selfish airline
