About Spectre Sound Studios:
I'm Glenn Fricker, engineer here at Spectre Sound Studios. I love making records, and after doing it for sixteen years, I want to pass on what I've learned. On my channel you can find tutorials on how to record guitar, bass, real drums and vocals. There's reviews and demos of tube amps, amp sims, drums, mics, preamps, outboard gear, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, and plugin effects.
We've covered Moon on the Water, played Bias FX, given you the absolute best in Stupid Musician Texts, ranted & raved about bass guitar, and this channel is where The Eagle has Landed.
Everything you've wanted to learn about recording Hard Rock & Heavy Metal can be found right here on this channel!

I also respond to your comments & questions: The best make it into the SMG Viewer's Comments series of videos. Loads of fun, lots of laughs.

Thanks for checking out my channel & please subscribe!

I really love how the distressor's gain reduction meter became the angry meter for the show. Even the colors match the intensity.

Heyo, Glenn! Sponsored or not, thanks for the honest info and the wide display of testing you did on this thing to back it up. It's why we keep coming to you for this stuff. If it had sucked, I'm sure you would have let us know that too. Macross is eternal. Cheers.

Glen, just want to say thank you for giving such informative, actionable, and realistic examples of gear and equipment. It's obvious you really are passionate about this industry and that you take alot of pride in what you do. For all of us gearheads (regardless of experience), it's really helpful to see how methodical your approach is from intro, explaining, demonstrating, and real-use application for so much of the recording process. Thank you a million!

UA is one company that really understands what a guy trying to record music needs

Just got the volt 276 for Christmas and begun the whole home recording thing. I mic'd my cab (powered by a 5150 because I love metal core) with a Shure SM57 and started stumbling my way through GarageBand as a starting point. So far the UA Volt 276 is extremely easy to use! Thanks to your vids I have been able start this whole process! Stay Metal!!

Nice! I've owned the Volt 276 for a few months and what amazed me was how smooth the setup was. I'm the type of person that always seems to run into technical difficulties and was expecting to have to do a bunch of troubleshooting but I remember breathing a sigh of relief when everything worked immediately and I was off and running. I'm super impressed with Volt and it was awesome getting to see you demo it's features.

Really smart how you used the digital interface as an output…… then took the analogue outs and fed them to the inputs and back into the DAW…… very creative!

I own the Volt 276. I bought it for my podcast/streaming setup but I have ended up using it on nearly everything. There's phantom power for tube mics & the compressors(algos) built in are incredible for vocals(I use a Shure SM-7B for podcasting/streaming). I don't normally use them on guitar. At $299 it's a bit pricier than other interfaces but the UA quality & suite of software that came with mine is worth the bit extra. I highly recommend the Volt 276👍👍

I have the 476 and I love it. One nice touch that I really like is that it has a dedicated power switch, so I don't have to disconnect the USB cable to keep it from being powered on 24/7.

Compressor is always rocket science to me; when I saw UA releasing Volt with onboard compressor, I bought the 476 right away. I glad that I've done it, especially after watching this video.

Thank you so much for going over compressors. I've seen a million tutorials, but I've always walked away with questions. This was great.

So glad i picked up my standard volt 2. I didnt have the healthiest budget at the time and for just under $200.USD, it gave me so much more in value on sonic quality. I'll pick up the 76 one next! Compared to some other interfaces in the same price range, i'd say that the Volt series really blows most out of the water. Thanks for confirming my choice!✨

Fun fact...I know there are very few people who care about this, but the 176 and 276 actually work out of the box with Linux - yay for interface manufacturers actually paying attention to standards compliance! Also, I remember the old days of Firewire, and the TC Impact Twin which had an _awesome_ single-knob compressor with built-in presets for male/female vocals etc. Loved that thing...even used it as a compressor and preamp when Firewire went the way of the dodo.

I've always recommended people to get an interface with inbuilt compressor, especially if you do streaming.
My goto is the Roland Rubix24 mostly because it is really affordable! (~135€)

As soon as I figured out about this thing I immediately bought it. I only needed a couple more inputs for my setup, and got well more than I bargained for. Great piece of gear

Wow I'm impressed with the prices and they differ in sizes from basically $100 bucks to $500 dollars. Pretty awesome! And analog/signal compression I believe which is awesome in my book.

I have the Quad Cortex so I mainly bought this to record vocals. I have to say with the built in compressor and preamp is truly amazing.

I just bought the Volt 4. Mostly for use with my 2020 iPad Pro. It’s really good. Surprisingly good. USB-c buss powered. 4 inputs of clean, no latency audio. Standard MIDI in and out jacks with no added latency. Great, future proof investment. Finally an iOS interface that just works.

Is anyone else utterly charmed by the way Canadians say Apollo? Anyway, between this video and the one Julian Krause did, my next interface will be the 276. Right now, I have the M-Audio Duo and it works well. However, as I get better (hopefully) at making music, I'll need this. Thanks for the info, Glenn.

funny how life works. I was in the market looking for a decent interface and your video pops up! watched it, asked a few questions to Universal Audio themselves, they answered me super quickly and I bought a 2 76! extremely happy with it and the sheer amount of plugins, virtual instruments, amp sims and a freaking DAW!!, payed for itself. thanks Glenn felt confident in the purchase due to your no bullshit approach to gear reviews.

EDIT: this is the second purchase I made with your help. Still have my Samson CS mic and it's great still. too bad they stopped making it
