Scotty, the problem here is how light is emitted in the reflector. A halogen bulb emits light at from an arc at point X in 3D space, and the LED bulb emits light from a diode at point Y in 3D space. Your reflector was only designed for the first scenario; the second results in light giong where you don't want it, wasting it and often blinding other motorists

Hate to break your bubble...But the halogen lights are better. What people are missing out on here is that the color range is what really makes these lights look brighter. If your car came with Halogen lights you should stick to them for the time being. These LED lights are not made to work with your head light's reflector. It was designed to work with the Halogen it came with.
The color is a BIG deal. The yellower the light the better it will allow you to see at night. Specially in bad weather. The bluish glare that LED lights emit will light up every raindrop and / or every snowflake. This is the last thing you want. Also the bluish glare will cause visual fatigue. As it will light up road sign and cause you to squint. Your eyes are amazing and they can adjust to different lighting conditions.
I have been driving professionally for years. Yes I have tried them (a lot of them) so I am talking from experience. I will not get into a pissing match with people who say LEDs are better. Yes they can be brighter, Yes they can be easier on the electrics of a automobile. This is not the point. The point here is to see, be seen, and not blind oncoming traffic with the glare that so many LEDs cause. Oh ya and One VERY important note These light are NOT DOT approved. (at least not the ones I have tried.)

Unless they are in projectors, won't LED's (or any non-halogen builbs) blind everyone else on the road because they're in the stock housing?

Love watching Scotty, he makes everything look easy.

Wish it were that easy to replace the bulbs on my Fusion, Scotty. These geniuses have designed the car to where you have to take the front bumper off the car to replace the lamp.

Yes, we can kinda see how bright the LED lights are (even though this is in no way a proper way to compare the two). We can also very clearly see how they lack the proper pattern of the light, which means you'll blind the oncoming traffic all the time. And what we can't see is how the pattern actualy looks on road - brighter looking light does not automatically equal better visibility.

This is the best car channel on YouTube hands down!

Another thing to consider is the light color. Bluish, or whitish light will be reflected back in fog, rain or snow, whereas yellowish light (like halogen) will cut thru all that and actually light the road, not fog or the rain or snow itself. If you can choose the light color, choose the lowest color temperature available for the best efficiency.

Nice that those LEDs don't need an external box to regulate the power! It's all contained in the bulb assembly, nice. Truly plug and play, no velcro, no zip ties. Cool.

I did as you said and bought a set. I love the new look and brightness. Thank you Scotty. love your channel.

Great presentation Scotty, who cares if they aren't DOT legal, driving under the influence is illegal and no one complaints about that.

This is just a personal thing but I hate to see these things coming towards me on a dark two-lane road. I can't see shit. That's why I don't install them on my car if I wanted to blind people I might as well just use my high beams. Maybe my eyes are sensitive I don't know xD

As the bulbs are just about same lenght and emitte light around them I do not see the issue some comments are about. The halogen lightbulb disperses the light EXACTLY the same way it standard Halogen housing. In fact, the tip of the halogen bulb is blackened out where the LED bulb doesnt project any light from the tip of it either. so its all the same but brighter. Thanks Scotty, good

Hi Scotty,
You are awesome man. Thank you for all the great tips. You are a modern day guru enlightening our way to understand our cars.

One thing to note is that some cars monitor current usage to tell if a light is burnt out or not functioning properly. As a result, using an LED lamp may trick the car's computer into thinking the light is burnt out. If so, it may be necessary to add a resistor or make other modifications to the lamps. It's more trouble than it's worth, IMO. I'll wait a few more years for LED tech to get better.

Awesome channel! First time commenting, but I've been a fan for a long time. :)

Whatever happened to the HIDs you previously installed in this car?

Why is everyone countering the video and saying it's dangerous (I admit, to others it is dangerous)?? Did Scotty tell you to ACTUALLY REPLACE the halogen bulbs? He isn't saying that you should replace them, it means that you could replace them if you wanted to do so.

The haters come here or anywhere else is because they're downright bored in life and have nothing else to do, and so they post these nonsensical comments. Just shows you know what I mean. If it is the truth forgive me then, I'm just justifying the truth from the others

Very well done Scotty! Keep it up! Easily overtook other mechanics who have a hard time catching up
