Thank you for this wonderful lecture! This was a great help during my orgo course last term.
I was wondering if I could ask a question about mass spectra from different ms systems. For instance if the same (pure) sample is injected into e.g. a single quadrupole ms, an ion trap ms, and a time of flight ms, will the mass spectra produced by these machines be the same (assuming we use the sane ionization technique and sufficient amount of sample), or will different mass spectrometers give different mass spectra for the same molecule?
Basically I'm wondering if one can compare the mass spectra obtained from different mass spectrometers in a standard way?
This is something I don't understand very well, but which seems important if we want to compare MS spectra obtained through via different MS systems.
Thanks.

Hello Professor, let's say we have an octane and a 2-methylheptane. They both have the formula C8H18. How would I be able to determine then which one I have? Thank you in advance.

why did you multiply 5 by 12? where did we get the 12 from?

doesn't carbon have a molar mass of 12?
