How do you recognize the sounds of spoken language? How do we
take apart the words that we speak? Learn more about this skill and tips to
improve phonological awareness in kids.

Phonological awareness is a skill that lets us recognize the sounds of spoken
language. In this video, reading expert Margie Gillis breaks down phonological
awareness in kids and how you can help your child develop these skills.
Phonological awareness is all about how kids learn and hear sounds, according to
Margie. You can rhyme words, count syllables, or highlight how sounds can repeat
themselves. Watch as Margie walks through how we can break sentences down
into words, words into syllables, and syllables into sounds.

every educational institute of higher learning should include this video as part of an introduction to Phonological Awareness training course(s). Thank you so much for the simplicity of it...that's a great skill you have to take something soooo dynamic and explain it in such a simple and fundamental way.🙌💐👍

Excellent content and clear presentation / explanation. Suggestion: Re-edit it and turn down the background music. It would make it easier for some to focus on what is being said.

Is this to say that phonemic awareness is one component of phonological awareness?

Phonemic awareness is only one part of phonological development. The broader term encompasses so much then just the sound or phoneme.. It is a larger concept and so the video is misleading. Phonological development goes beyond sounds (phonemes). It also encompasses spelling, phonics, etc.
