There is a war on cars, not just in Scotland, but in America too. Regulators want people out of their private cars and onto trains, buses, and bicycles. Why? They'll say it's to "reduce emissions in the fight against climate change." But it's really because of what cars represent—freedom.

Walkable cities are the historical standard. The car has changed the way cities and communities are built. Everything now is built with the car in mind. This limits the ability of people to simply walk to the store or to work. Now we have to buy a car to do the same things a person a hundred years could do just by walking around town.

In large cities like Chicago I almost prefer using public transit over driving. Trains and busses run when I needed them but living in the suburbs there is no way I could live on public transit. It is slow and isn't running every 5-10 minutes like large cities.

I’m 27 and fully intend to buy nothing but 1990-2010 used cars for the next 15 years at least. I prefer manual cars as well. Buying used is cheaper and actually is better for the environment because you’re reusing a resource instead of making a new product. Interesting how the EV crowd just wants to look like they care about the planet…
