Sony GM 24-70mm f2.8 mkII Photo + Video Review & Comparisons

Hey everyone! I'm really excited to share my review of the new Sony GM 24-70mm f2.8 mkII! I'm using this lens on the Sony A7IV during a portrait photoshoot to see how it performs on location. I have a LOT of example images to show you at various focal lengths and lots of comparison photos to other lenses too - both zooms and primes to keep it fun! And let me know what you think of my hot take lol of this lens being too sharp for some styles of portraits... hmmm. This lens was loaned to me by Sony Australia. Everyone should want it to be sharp. If you think it's too sharp, then simply adjust the clarity slider in your raw editor. It's easy to remove detail but difficult to add it.

Sony have probably made the Mkii so sharp because they're aiming to future proof it for when they start releasing even higher resolution sensors than the ones they have now.

Everything is sharp just need patience and focus on shots.

Sold my Tamron for this. The lighter weight, sharpness, smoother zoom ring. And of course, to match the 70-200 GMII. A fabulous, lightweight one-two punch.

I think you still stick with prime lens 35mm 50mm or 85mm for your portrait work. Will you use 24-70 for your wedding photography?

1. you could add a softening lens filter
2. you could fix every sharpness issue in photoshop through portrait retouching, dodging and healing, spot healing etc.

My Tamron is still the winner at 540g. Sharp as any Sigma or G-Master, 1/3 the cost. I’ll keep what I have.

If I only could afford it!!! I´d love to have the Sony 24-70 2.8 GM II . I just bougth the A7IV with both Tamron 28-75 2.8 II and the 35-150mm 2.8, no more dough left (-;

If you could choose just 1 standard zoom lens from sigma(24-70), samyang(24-70), tamron(28-75) and the new GM II which one would you choose?

It's an amazing lens but it's way to expensive. The good thing about this lens is a bit lighter and smaller. It's good for video

It was really interesting to hear you talk about the sharpness of the images. A lot of my images (with a different lens) are very sharp. Which is great! But not always what you want, style-wise.
