Beautiful beautiful lyrics from Don McLean, of course telling the tale of Vincent Van Goch.

I remember Don performing this on Top of the Pops when it first came out.
I saw he was playing the open G chord "upside down " using fingers 2, 3 and 4. All the tutorial books told us to play it with fingers 1, 2 and 3.
This simple fingers change opened up a huge new range of possibilities for me, and changed my playing style forever.
And now it seems to be the preferred method for most players.

Thak you Stuart when my only child was dying in the hospital there was a copy of starry night on the wall i for some reason I've always remembered it he was only 8.5 years old and this song always reminds of him god bless you for your version!!!

A lovely performance of this lovely song - takes me back to my youth. Did I first see the "upside down G" on that same TOTP? I don't know but it's the fingering I use most of the time.
