I have owned the D7100 and the D90. I retained the D90 and got rid of the D7100, reason - all the D7000 series suffer from back focus when wide open, even stopped down they are iffy. The D90 is spot on every time due to it's D300 heritage. I do still possess a D7000 which I use for video. For serious photography I use a D700/D3 combination, excellent image quality sensible raw file size and no back focus. FX cannot be beaten.

I have nikon d7100 with nikon 18-105mm lense. Also have 35 f 1.8 . I used to do wedding mostly. I have some confusion about 18-105mm diffraction which directly affects image sharpness. Please enlighten me.

I got a Canon 7d mk ii with the 18-135 stm kit lens and a 70-200 f4 non is. My next lens should be a sigma 18-35 f1.8 or canon 17-55 f2.8? I know that this sigma has a great build quality but i saw reviews that say that for a beguinner the 18-35 is not as versatile as it seems. You know that I follow ur work for a good time and like it a lot. Greatings from Brazil!

Get the D7100 with the kit lens which is decent and then later add the Nikkor 50mm 1.8G for great portraits!

Thanks for the video! I just have one question, wich can be answered for anyone who may know: I´ve heard D7100 doesn´t work well with Sigma 17-50mm. I do not intend to replace my camera for now, so should I keep working with my 50mm + 18-105mm or it would be a good idea having a 17-50mm as well? Thanks for sharing all those informations. =)

Yeah, D7100 for sure. I like your suggestion of a fast prime as well. 35 1.8 G DX lenses go cheap used, as do 50 D series. Maybe they could get one (or both) to compliment the 18-105 zoom.

I agree Matt, I too would recommend the Nikon D7100 with the 18-105mm kit lens over the D90 with the faster Sigma for few reasons. The D7100 has much more resolution, better dynamic range, better low light performance and has the AA filter removed which potentially can produce sharper images. Also the AF is much better, its leaps ahead the D90, as a guy who used to own the 18-105mm I can say its a very good lens which offers more focal flexibility over the Sigma, yes the Sigma is faster but this just isn't enough for me to recommend the D90, in image quality the Sigma might be just a tiny bit sharper but not in a way you will really notice it compared to the 18-105mm.

What do you think about d7200 with sigma 17 - 50mm combination?

What makes the D7100 better than a D300s? How much better is the sensor?

Totally agree although I have no experience with the Sigma. The D7100 is great although the D7200 is better for sports and wildlife

d90 vs d7100, definitely d7100 as it is couple of generations newer. if budget permits will bump up to 18-140 instead of 18-105. adding more versatility and metal mount(a must have for me). sigma 17-50 is a wonderful lens however the sensor in the d7100 will compensate it to an extent with it better iso performance.

D7100 + 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 VR because this lens has better image quality than 18-105 ... and that 2mm extra Wide makes a lot of difference, ... & the 20mm deficit on the TELE End can be compromised, but not the wide. I have used the 18-105 + D7000 in the past, and didn't like that lens. Thanks

The Nikon D7100 will produce better quality over the D90 no matter which lense is used. Arguably the Sigma having a narrower range of focal lengths should produce better images overall compared to the Nikon lense. Trying to cover a very wide range of focal lengths in a single lens will always come with compromises ( thus why primes produce better images ). It's asking a lot for a lens to be excellent from very wide to telephoto.

Just buy the used d7100 and hold off for the 17-50.

A perfect advise from CRX, get D7100 and later just add the 50 1.8G or 35 1.8G

D7100. The 17-50 is pretty crap as is the D90 and on the used market you could get an 18-200 nikon for £200 to go with the D7100. Then a 35mm 1.8.
