Agreed, new dynamic wallpapers are great and I really like the aerials. Also the addition of widgets has been very useful as it keeps information quickly accessible.

I like the aerials too, but unfortunately they don't work reliably for me. I always change them and next time I open up my computer, I get one of the other bubbly ones. Maybe it has to do with me using several desktops...

Apple's Sonoma glorifies icons and widgets on the desktop when these were the things I promised myself not to place when I acquired my 13" M2 MacBook Air last February. It's because my Windows desktop PC and notebook are cluttered with icons and widgets. And it takes a lot of discipline not to be distracted by them to get to constructive work.

I think software engineers need to focus on making bulletproof apps rather than giving us all of these features that are just about useless. Do people really need a desktop that serves as a form of entertainment? Sure, it’s a cool feature but I don’t spend anytime looking at my desktop image. I open my MacBook Pro and go right to the app that I need to use. Why load a bunch of bloat that’s going to drag down your system?

These updates are a snooze-fest, IMO. In fairness, innovation has become pretty stagnant in the consumer space... just about all they deploy are a few iterative, token updates to give reviewers some content/propaganda to post and create demand. The real innovation takes place where the "big boys" spend their money... in the private/corporate/government sectors.
