APSC crop on the S Series cameras is a trap!

I’ve seen dozens of people using crop sensor lenses (APSC) on full frame cameras from Sony to Panasonic, but is there any good reason to do so?

Man, you made my day!

When the first prosumer Nikon (D700) came out I found the 12.1Mp res to exceed my needs, even for A3 sized paper, and it's been long replaced by an S5 v1 so 16Mp will be great on it, both for stills as well as 4k and I just found a sweet offer for this beaut. Already ordered.

I'm guessing it will better its sibling DG DN (superb lens, BTW, had one of the first on the D700) and at significant size/weight reduction. If I ever need superb bokeh for portraits, I'll don my M mount Voigtländer 75/2.5 on the M10-R (or the S5) and have tons on it!

Before I leave, HUGE thanks for the cue to the video. Believe it or not, YT viewers appreciate respect for our dwindling time allocation. Best!

PS, subscribing! ;-)

I like the look of APS-C lenses on full frame cameras because they vignette, and I like that.

Get the S5 for $600 as a 4K/60 APS-C wirh Sigma 10-18mm & 18-50mm

Dude, LOVE this idea! This is something I would HIGHLY consider! I love the smaller size of that lens! Can't wait to see your review!

You can use crop mode in photos with full 24MP resolution and can be in Raw as well on Lumix S5 & S1 but the settings is not straight forward

Your audio is a bit lo-fi / mushy this time, what did you do differently?

As a lover of 60 fps (not just for slow motion, but also live streaming/sometimes delivery) I would have difficulty with the APS-C cropping. Hopefully next generation S5 or similar has full-width at 4k or higher

Yes, please make this continued video on topic!

Hi! How could I change the crop circle if I am using the Lumix S5 for pictures?

Hi Rhett! Thanks for the content! I was
wondering how does the S5 on apsc compare to the GH5s on low light-noise performance for video. Since in your other video they are very comparable both with full sensor...

Sorry to be the one to point out the obvious mistake in calming that the background separation would somehow be affected. Just like cropping on the center of an image in post production croping in during the recording will not have any impact on the background separation.

What if you just happen to a couple Leica TL lenses… you might still use those on your L-mount Fullframe?! Just another idea why someone would use apsc-lenses on a 35mm sensor.

Why not use the 20-60mm? Is that 3mm really worth $675? Certainly a ff lens is going to perform better in the corners than an apsc lens! I just don't see the value.

Just to be clear, the difference in DOF is due to the different focal length used to get similar framing. 👍

why use APS lens on full-frame?
* APS lens gives fast rolling shutter.
* APS lens has short minimum focus distance.
* APS lens works better with anamorphic filter.

does this apply to shooting videos too?

do I lose light with a apsc on the r5 I got a 1.8 is it still a 1.8

Speedboosters decrease sharpness so much on m43, that you might as well record 60 fps full HD instead on an S series camera. I dont get why people care about 4k yet put a speedbooster on. Zoom in and youll see you lose the sharpness.

Hi Rhett! Sorry, being new to full frame I'm a bit confused by all this. Can I put a sony e-mount aps-c lens on a Panasonic S5? Would I need an adapter? Does such a thing exist? I want to shoot wide on an S5 in 4k60p and I think the best way is an aps-c lens but I don't know what lenses I can use on an S5, or how to do it. Any help is appreciated and sorry for being a bit of a noob. Thanks!
