New cars have camshaft sensor to sense where the shaft is and it will tell the ecu when to ignite the spark plug? So, we just need to tighten the timing belt and test it during installation that it rotates and ends back at tdc position after 2 rotations of the crank right?

I have a question im sure you can answer. After checking with a timing light i notice the balancer line was off from the pointer so i loosened the distributor to line it up but the closer i got to lining up the balancer to the pointer the weaker the engine was getting. Do you have any suggestions on what's causing that? Its a 1978 350 engine Chevy c10.
