I bought my Saab 93.. Linear 1.8 manual 5 speed.. built 2004.. Only after i had watched your video series.I don'.the convertible is a lovely PROJECT..mine is boring but so far excellent. Taken it on a couple of 100 mile trips love it...as does everyone who sees it..downside...it's grey and difficult to find in a car park...in the greyness of the UK!!

I understand the issues with the '96 Clutch. I have a '95 900 convertible and several year ago I bought a hydraulic clutch retro fit kit to get rid of the issues with the clutch cable stretching out. It now has the same clutch as the '98 900 and has been running strong since I made the change. One thing about the 1993 convertible... there has been issues with engine gelling in some engine due to folks not changing their oil enough coupled with that generation of 9-3 engines overheating the oil. Before I did a rebuild of my '95 900 I had my Saab mechanic drop the pan and review the engine intervals as well as check for blockage in the oil pickup tube screen and replace the washers that hold the tube to the engine. He showed me real examples of blocked pickup tubes from Saab 9-3 he had worked on and saved. I was lucking in that I have always run Mobile 1 extended and changed oil at 5000 mile intervals and as such he told me my engine was clean as new...

Good luck on your new Saab.... I only have 180k on my '95 Convertible and intend on keeping it forever. By the way, this was once my wife's car and I inherited it after buying her a new Saab Convertible in 2007..

Actually when Saab started NG 9-3 production in Trollhättan in 2003, they moved whole OG 9-3 production line to Saab's other factory in Uusikaupunki, Finland, where all og 9-3 cabs and viggens were made. Uusikaupunki factory also made 99's, 900's, 90's and 9000's!

I have the coupé of the same chassi and engine, and it's really fun to drive! It's the perfect summer car, the sound of the turbo spoling on this engine is magical!

The '03 9-3 conv was the last "Saaby" SAAB. Made in Finland with the sodertalje B205R engine. The '03 9-3 sedan was made at the Opel (GM) plant in russelheim, Germany. Treasure it.

Just a FYI, the AC is not smooth as the newer or older saabs, what I mean is either it is OFF or ON 100% meaning the transition from OFF to ON could be sensitive. If you happend to have full gas on it and the AC kicks in, you will most likely damage the wheel on the AC compressor. Trust me, done that misstake twice, and it is a pretty known problem. If you are going to max it out, turb the ACC to ECO, that will keep the AC OFF.

Hard to try explain in english but hopefully you understand.

Did you Dad check the radiator for leaks? Swapping out the radiator is much easier when you are servicing the ac, since the lines get in the way. Congrats on the new purchase.

Clutch engages when pedal is near floor? Wouldn't that be an issue with the clutch and or slave cylinder? I thought synchro issue is more evident when you grind gears when shifting normally or semi hard.

Bro, no joke you need to get the 6 point subframe brace, the rear anti roll bar, and the strut brace when you can afford it. My wife has the convertible and I heard the cowel shake was terrible... it's BEYOND terrible. When you go over train tracks you think the car is going to shake apart, it's insane. You can feel the chassis flexing violently over train tracks and potholes.

I wouldn't consider these things modifications, I'd consider them necessities. Also Fabric Guard from Amazon (it's like $90 a gallon) to spray on the cloth top is important too to protect from UV damage and in general make it stay waterproof. The sun starts to dry rot the tops on these things after 10 to 15 years.

Wow, the odd year with the original Saab/Scania engine which had quite a bit different older technology. The convertible was delayed a year on the redesign because the new body was not ready with testing to be launched in the convertible style.

You say that the clutch ingadges almost at the floor, if it does not spit out of gear when driving or is difficult to engage, most common on second gear, the syncros is probebly not at fault. If the engine revs and the car do not accelerate at high gear, the clutch is worn out. My advice to you is to examine the clutch wire and maybe adjust it or raplace it, or the clutch assembly itself is wornout and needs to be replaced.

I want a saab 900 1993 unfortunately this model is not avaliable in my country. Saab arrived in 2000 and left in 2009. Congratulations for that 9-3 convertible

Watch out for cracking in the bulkhead, these suffer badly from structural flexing and on bad examples it can cause the bulkhead to crack which is pretty much the end of the road for the car. There is a kit available to stop it happening, if you watch the Wheeler Dealers episode where the did a 9-3 convertible it covers that...

Nice car! I have the same, only 900II '96, but the car is pretty the same... the engine is awesome! That's indestructible! Only difference, that u have trionic 7 and I have trionic 5... on maptune they have the ecu for 225hp and for removing the boost limitator in second gear!
