As someone who's already graduated high-school and going to college, you forget to mention to still actually take time for your goddamn self. I know so many kids who think like this and only shoot for a title that doesn't even last and make all their relationships second place. It's sad and I'm so glad I didn't end up like that

I like how his talking like it's easy to do any of that

My sophomore year was screwed up entirely because of Covid, couldn't take any extracurricular but I did jeep my grades up. I hope I'll be fine after doing more things in my junior and senior year

Just wanna let you guys know...I had STRAIGHT D'S in high school and got into EVERY college I applied for...because I saved up and paid cash for the first semester. It's all about money with colleges. Ivy league colleges however...get good grades

I had a history teacher who hated the idea of needing a leadership role since you can be a crucial part of a club or group without being a leader.

I just started my sophomore year and last year I failed the first semester of two classes. I had a really low GPA but it can only go up right now and I have all A's and B's.

Me when I didn't take the PSAT today: Oh, oops

As a university graduate, I did none of that. If you can breathe you can get into a 2 year community college. Transfer into a 4 year university. And once you get your first job, literally nobody cares where you went to school.

I'm currently getting my master's degree and I never had to take the PSAT or any big test. Also, do not pay outrageous prices to go to a top school and do not stress about "I need to go to a top school". I promise you that if you go to community college to get your associates degree and then transfer to a state school you will save so much more money. Quick note: it's good to build your time management skills because this will help you succeed in college. Also, search around for what interests you and possibly what you want to do in the workforce and community college is great for this because the classes are cheap. I agree on finding a leadership role but only if you are applying for higher education beyond a Bachelors degree or if you really want to get into a top school out of high school. If you have good grades (3.0 GPA and up) you're set, every state school will accept you. I would say even a 2.5 GPA will get you into most state schools. If you really want to go to a top 10 school you better get a 5.0 GPA, perfect scores on required tests, scholarships, and be outstanding in something.

You do not need to go to a top school to be successful. Take your time, it's not a race to finish before others (I made this mistake and ended up changing my major because I hated my first career choice), save at least 50% or as much as you can from your paychecks (don't spend your money recklessly), set up a retirement account soon and early, and live below your means and you'll do great.

Me being a junior who is afraid or not interested in any extracurricular and haven’t planned at all for college, adults really do not prepare us for big things like college or real life

Friendly comment from a college student who did shit in high school. If you fuck up your grades in high school and don’t have a compelling reason or sob story, forget about getting into a good college directly from high school. This may sound mean, but it is actually not a bad thing. You can now just coast through high school with mediocre grades and less stress. Take the time you would have dedicated to studying your brains out and figure out who you are and what you want to do in life. Develop social skills. Embrace a passion you won’t have time for as an adult. Then after you have graduated with your 2.1 gpa go to your local community college, work your fucking ass of for 24-30 course hours and get into any state school you want. Or don’t go to college and start working towards something your passionate about. The key thing in all of this is don’t let failing a high school class define you, use it as an opportunity to improve yourself and destress. More straight A students kill themselves than B or C students, and in the long run it’s just not that important.

I mean, when you get to college you'll be working toward a good first job. Then it'll be a better job. Then a promotion. Then maybe another promotion, or a pay raise, or more recognition. You should keep your future in mind, but it'll never come; there'll always be a future to think about. Enjoy your time.
