Lol, I just realized something funny:

Imagine meeting an alien and becoming friends with it, only to realize it's even huger than you thought and you've been talking with its toes the entire time.

Ever notice how Abbott took a while to appear before his last interaction with the humans? He knew he was gonna die, and needed a moment to prepare himself

The 'weapon' is their language which rewires the brain to see time as non-linear...amazing.

"Who is this child?" the single sentence that made my jaw drop. What a great twist, what an amazing film.

When I heard "who is this child ?" : wildest moment I've had in a theater in a looong time. What a fucking twist. Still the biggest mindfuck of the decade. And not just for the sake of it. Meaningful, beautifully handled. Arrival is Villeneuve's masterpiece so far, and the whole ending is just unforgettable.

As a linguist, there are no words to express how much I love this film.

My favorite part is when Louise asks Ian " If you could see your life from start to finish, would you change things?" That is such a deep and thoughtful question 😌

This truly was the most compelling human sci-fi story I've seen in a long time.

I felt sorry for Abott dying until I realize abott knew the whole time he was going to die on this mission.

Bro this scene was terrifying and a HUGE amount of the population’s mind wouldn’t be able to process this in reality and most liked go into extreme shock.

Heptapods: "We have come to teach you the ability to see time as non-linear!"

Humanity: "So you have chosen death..."

Explained:

Heptapods are higher dimensional beings who can see all of time at once. They can do this because they view time as non linear, (always in the same place). For them, time moves in no specific direction. It’s all just here and now. That is why Costello is able to take events in Louise’s future in order to influence her present.

This reveal shook me to the core. I had to grasp my wall to keep myself from falling to the ground.

"In 3000 years we need humanity's help."

GOD that's disturbing.

After the movie I just kept thinking "What happens in 3000 WHAT HAPPENS?!?!"

This scene always gets me a little emotional. Just imagining how Costello and Abbot knew well in advance that Abbot wouldn’t survive this mission. And Louise knew before her daughter was even born that she wouldn’t live past her twenties. Imagine how devastating it would be to know your entire life when and how you or someone close to you would die, yet still making the same decisions anyway because you know you have to.

2:56 Costello is sending a message through time to Louise in the future through her future child. The child’s drawing is a picture of Louise, Ian and the bird from the cage they took in as the canary in the coal mine, they were the only ones to have no protective equipment or suit on inside the conference room, Costello is trying to show Louise he means no harm whatsoever not even to the small bird and they can all be completely exposed to him 100% safely and since they’re physically safe it opens the barrier much more to being mentally safe or spiritually safe, and he’s showing them all alive and happy with smiles in the kids drawing, which is from the future. It would be terrifying if the drawing the little girl made showed Ian and Louise dead along with the bird or one or the other vice versa.
