The star of Avebury Summer solstice 2019 Sunrise Sunset & Wansdyke

How to get to Avebury by public transport. You can get a coach or train to Avebury from there get the 49 stagecoach bus to Avebury. The bus runs 7 days a week. The National trust put on a campsite over the summer soltice with room for a 100 small tents. That gets full quick. Normally opens up at 9am first come first served. However there loads of places around the area its possible to camp it is not a crime to camp on land most the time so long as you course no damage what so ever and tidy up after your after you leave and while there. Always check on rules and laws and not just that respect the land and owner which might have good reason for you not camp on the land. I stopped on the campsite for 2 nights had a great time met some great people. Good laugh to. The Red Lion good pub to have a few in there is some times live music from random people. The village shop is normally well stocked. There is a museum there free if your a national trust member. I think its closed over the solstice. The national trust toilets are better than the campsite ones. There is a drinking water tap by them to. Feeling bit worse for wear after the 2 days and not wanting face public transport on a Saturday i decided to camp up on Wansdyke a ancient defensive earth works much like Offas dyke. I think even more amazing than Avebury and not many visit it very nice place to chill out after Avebury Soltice and the views are incredible. Where as up on the Ridgeway will be busy and maybe a rave going on. Back in the day i would loved that but now i prefer the peace of Wansdyke.

Good to hear you had a good Solstice Rich. It looked really pleasant. My brother bivvied at Avebury once and meditated with all the stones. He said a beam of light shot out from one of them and connected with his heart chakra or solar plexus. Whatever it sounded profound when he told me. Thanks for sharing. Mark
