Agree with Roy, the standards have to be higher. Gary is being pragmatic but Roy is a winner you can tell

For what they are right now, it is. For what they have been historically and the standards that had been set in years gone by, then absolutely not. I do see both sides, but I do agree with Keane more. Bottom half of the table for a club like that is inexcusable

Winning a Euro cup would be nice, getting UCL next year would rescue this season. They're both right though. If Utd were sitting around 8th place you could just say they had a bad year but mid table is unforgivable bearing in mind the resources Utd have.

I’m with Roy. You have to at least finish higher than you did last season and ideally be in the top half of the league to call it a successful season

Success or not, it's vital to win this competition

Get what he's saying. It'd be like finishing just above relegation after sacking a manger, winning the FA cup and still calling that season a success

In the past, if Man Utd won the FA Cup and League Cup but had finished 14th that would not have been seen as a successful season. The standards have dropped so much at that club that people now expect them to be lower mid table. Yikes.

You can tell Gary is being practical, but under Keane high standards are practical. That's what the aim at UTD should be.

From where we are now, from the point Amorim got in, this was the absolute best they could have hoped for so it’s 100% a successful season. Obviously the standards are higher but it’s impossible to get there right now so for this season, yeah that’s a success

Theres only 5 major trophies available to english clubs (prem, fa cup, league cup, champions league, europa league) Theres 92 professional english clubs plus hundreds more below the professional level. If your team is lucky enough to pick up one of them 5 pots you should be grinning from ear to ear.

Would be their 3rd trophy in 3 seasons. Not bad considering how poor they've been

roy needs to accept man u are not the man u of his time they are years off it to even get a trophy with the team they have has to been seen as a success for this current team roy just can’t accept far they have fallen

this year the reality is fulham, forest, newcastle, villa, are better machines than us and so retrospectively even top 8 would’ve been a long shot but still our league run was poor and we should’ve at least been top half. i want to see signs of a competitive machine before the season ends.

Don't say winning the FA cup isn't a success. It's really disrespectful to English football.

Its like Roy has taken on the embodiment of the old Man Utd, sitting on the sidelines desperately disappointed by the new incarnation……Roy is United.

Considering how poor this Man Utd team are of course it’d be a successful season if they win a trophy.

It’s not a success but it’s certainly a get out of jail card in terms of progression for the new manager and getting into the Champions League and the quality of player that will come as opposed to having no European football… sadly that’s the predicament United are in at this current time, not being in the CL year after year is a massive hindrance for signing quality players, revenue and sponsorship (even though that usually gets taken out by the Glazers in dividends!) and getting back to challenging in the top 6 not the bottom 6!! 😮

It's been a diabolical season - they're not mid-table, they are bottom of the league. Roy is right.

Didn't everyone know at the start of the season Liverpool couldn't win the league?? It's not an excuse for a club as big as man united.

Winning the Europe League would be nothing more than a consolation prize for an extremely poor Manchester United team.
