1- Barnum Statements. General statement that is worded and deliver to sound or seem very specific to an individual.
2- recap or regurgitations. Use a Barnum statement to pull out information about a person, “I’m getting that you’ve experienced a loss in your life recently does this mean anything to you?” Them: “yeah my grandma died and I’m really crushed” you 20 minutes later “ remember how I reached your recently passed grandma?” This will make it seem like it was you who came up with it due to psychology factors such as transience which is that a person is likely to misremember something over time and the DRM paradigm which is that people will recal features of a event that didn’t actually happen; due to being related to a common theme. So basically repeat their words back to them.
3- changing your meaning, even if you get a reading wrong change your meaning to get it right
4 guarantee phrasing, phrases that apply to every single person like how every person wants to feel accepted in a group yet also wants their own individuality
5 never take full responsibility so basically blame spirits for being dumb

Amy books on how to do this? I'm a nurse so I feel I'm very good at reading people and their emotions but always want to be better. It helps to read people in order to be able to work with them in stressful situations

I’m a tarot reader and astrologer and I’ve avoided learning cold reading because I don’t want to feel like a fraud.

But I’ve been invited to read tarot at a local event, so I’ll be interacting with a lot of new faces and I only have 10 minutes with each person.

Normally my sessions are 30-60 minutes and it’s much more of a conversation, and the tarot cards are more of a window into the psyche rather than fortune-telling. They help guide the conversation.

I’m also a psychology student, so I’ve come to understand how much of my work has more to do with psychology than the supernatural. As long as I don’t try to convince my clients that I’m some all-knowing powerful seer, I think it’ll be okay. 🥰

if you use specific astrology/birth charts and not horoscopes, it gets better. you can't get a birth chart for a stranger, but moon phases or planets in retrograde can give you some info, and if for some reason it's the person's birthday, you get their sun sign (which gives you an element). just a tip from an astro nerd ✨

A lot of mediums use these techniques such as saying a grandparent has come through, someone died with cancer or heart problems or after long illness. If you are seeing a medium try to have something in mind that only you could know so if the medium says that it’s more likely to be genuine. There is a saying my grandad used a lot which would convince me 100% it was genuine contact from him if anyone said it as it’s a common saying but he changed part of it and I don’t think my mum his daughter would even know it. My nan probably would be easier to cold read tho there is a few things that would convince me someone was contacting her but nothing that only me would know.
