The healing power of relationships brings caring and connection into the lives of extremely vulnerable people. This is especially effective when working with at-risk children and under-served adults who suffer from pain and loneliness. Too much pain and too much loneliness leads to hopelessness. Without hope, people cannot live up to their full potential.
About Jodie:
Jodie is a prison volunteer conducting weekly classes at Ridgeland Correctional Institute in Ridgeland, South Carolina. She is certified to teach WhyTry? programs for at-risk youth and corrections. WhyTry? is a nationally-recognized resiliency training program that combines visual metaphors with multi-sensory learning tools, such as music, activities, journaling, video, and discussion, to deliver social and emotional skills to participants of all learning types. WhyTry? participants are learning how to transform pain into power, using adversity as fuel to reframe the way problems and situations are viewed. In order to repair a less than stellar legacy and restore hope for a brighter future, WhyTry? programming deals with the causes, not the symptoms, that led to incarceration.
