05 - Import Data from TEXT Files in Excel using Power Query

In this video, I will show you how to import the data from text files into Excel using Power Query.

You can also transform the data and correct some formatting before you import the data from the text file into Excel. And also, since we are using Power Query, in case your data in the text file changes, you can easily import the new data with a single click.

Hi, dear Sumit again and thanks for your outstanding explanation.
The date wasn't changed to a date format in the query editor automatically. It is still in the text format. I changed it manually into date format but I got an error starting from line 127 in the query editor.
When I click Save & Close, it shows the date format is correct up to row 127 in the excel document but in row 128 it was blank.
In the text file, it wasn't blank. There is a date.
Any idea?

So many thanks for your clear explanation. I've just one query when you changed the source from Jun to July, The query editor name remains Sales Data June which confused me. I believe we also need to change the name as well.
Am I right?

Sir if when you changed the source data of june with july then the original data of june got replaced with july. But if we want to have both june & july month data then how can we import the July data on the same formating & alterations as we did for june data.

If I change the date type in Query editor instead of following the text date type then I'm getting error after 127th row.. same happen in CSV file also..

Thanks Sumit. One question, your text data was in a formatted shape however, i have a data which is not structured in text file and while loading from text file, power query is ready it as only one column.
Can you pls help how can i format this file in power query?

Good explanation, thanks. However, what happens if I wanted to add the July CSV file to the current data instead of replacing it? Can I append one file to the next? Or should it be on a separate sheet when copying from the first one that you created for June?

I have a text file with 1st 11 rows which I need to delete. Also, the 12th row needs to be put in as header and then 13 deleted again. And, 12th row repeats as header row in every page of my text file which I would like to delete in excel. Is there a detailed video to deal with text files for that matter?
