Another top notch lesson from Richard! Anyone learning electronics or who would like to brushup their memory of the basics, you are in the right place and in very competent hands. This is a great explanation without getting into atomic theory of hole flow (short for hole current flow or conduction by holes). Maybe in a future lesson?

The reverse breakdown is also called "Avalanche" and some diodes are "Avalanche rated" and can tollerate some reverse current without permanently breaking

Is there a video that explains why diodes in circuit show continuity/readings on a DMM in both directions when they are connected to IC's and resistors explaining why not to think they have failed and explain what is happening in circuit.
I can imagine testing in circuit then removing a diode someone thinks has failed only to find testing again out of circuit on a DMM the anode and cathode read normally .
