My Philosophy: I love music. I love all kinds of music. And I go into every album wanting to love it, so that’s my starting point for every review. Keep in mind, though, that music is a very personal thing. An album may hit me personally in a very different way than it hits you. That’s complexly natural and unavoidable, which is why I try to include some personal context in my reviews. It’s so you’ll have a better idea where I’m coming from. In the end, it’s still just my personal opinion, which is inherently biased, and which you may or may not agree with. Hopefully, once in a while, we’ll find common ground.

Feeling exasperated because she sang in another languages is how you feel when you realize that the the world doesn't orbit around you

Bruce Springsteen has a much bigger promo campaign. Is he also desperate and trying to be relevant? Stop using buzz words.
I respect the review. But wish you said more about the experimentation.

The fact that you addressed ariana as the current queen of pop is so disrespectful to Madonna. You're just giving away a title which is part of her legacy. You don't see people doing that to other artists like here's the new king of pop or new king of rock and roll or new songbird supreme. That was so wrong and problematic coming from a reviewer like you. So disappointing.

I think you have to be ESPECIALLY open minded to both a) her lyrics b) Latin vibe to enjoy this.

The fact you called Ariana the "current queen of pop" already colors your review in a bad way. as stated before, you missed the point of the album. Dark Ballet is interesting, she was not going for pop charts here, but something that does not sound like ANYTHING else out there. She wants the message to get out. You missed the mark, big time.

I really appreciate this album, I’m very young and am still exploring Madonna’s discography and career. The album is very experimental, but I really enjoy it! Thank you for your review!

The fact that you and many others praise Bruce for not trying to be contemporary and current and playing in his safe lane while bashing Madonna for trying to be contemporary and experimenting with new things is so problematic. You are praising a artist who's getting stagnant and bashing the one who has never once in her career went stagnant, always freshening up her art each era. Also you constantly addressing her art with her age and ranting about the album being too multilingual makes this a very narrow minded review. You tried but this review was a 5/10.

Hey people, stop attacking this guy for having an opinion

Sorry but Madame X disappointed me. Ray of Light was also experimental but sonically it was concise and consistent. Madame X on the other hand tries hard to incorporate so many elements that it gets too saturated and messy. The autotune I understand was used purposely for style but it unfortunately pushed Madonna's delicate voice... Future is the strongest song in this album. I just yawned... Sorry Madonna. You are still the Queen.

The jab at her age was unnecessary and had nothing to do with the music quality, be objective for crying out loud.

Killer review. Madame X is a major mess to me, but there are still moments of brilliance. Personally, I do find it somewhat unfair to criticize the record for its use of other languages. The problem with this record is the overproduced styling and vocal presence.

I really enjoyed this review, I thought Madame X was very refreshing for Madonna and it is definitely a very interesting project. I wouldn't agree with criticism of her using multiple foreign languages but I think it adds more fun to the album, especially on Faz Gostoso.

Great review! Thanks. Youre the only person I know who agrees with me about Hard Candy. It was fun pop music again! Where there explosive hits, not really, but many of the songs are fun and release a lot of endorphins. 'Incredible' being my favorite.

Return to form? There was never a "Standard" from for Madonna. None of theses songs are simillar to her previous ones. This is what makes this album a gem. She actually never went retro, throuhgout her career. There was no comment on the excellent production of I rise. Synths, strings, back up singing all put into a perfect audio orbit to create a fantastic piece of music.... I heard your review, i just didnt hear any actual reviews on the music itself. Thanks

The super deluxe box set Madame X release has a second cd with 3 songs on it. Funana, Back That Up To The Beat and Ciao Bella, all very good tracks.

Thanks for great review. I am someone who has drifted in and out of Madonna's career think I will buy this soon. Do you think there will be a Like a Prayer 30th anniversary reissue? Think album plus single remixes and DVD of the videos would be great.

When I saw all the comments attacking him, I was just thinking to myself "did he give it a 3 out of 10 or something."

Guys. His review was fair in my opinion, stop attacking him. Everyone has an opinion and that is what makes us unique.

However, I do feel that when reviewers come for her age it is unnecessary.

Anyways personally I enjoyed the Album a lot. I think it's her most experimental since her masterpiece American Life (2003) and her best since Confessions on the dance floor (2005). I disagree on some of the songs you tend to not like. As a Bjork and Gazelle Twin fan, I love to hear experimental music, with strange production elements and sonic choices, so I did enjoy cuts like "Batuka" and "Dark Ballet" a lot, but I didn't enjoy some of the more generic tracks like "Future" so I do have a different opinion from him but I do respect his.

Anyways personally it's one of her best albums in a long time in my opinion. Although it's not cohesive, I appreciate the majority of decisions made on this album.

8/10!

My top 3 songs:
1. I rise
2. Dark Ballet
3. Come Alive

Other favorites: Batuka, Medellin, Killers who are partying, Crave, I don't search I find, Crazy

Mutual feelings: Future

Least Favorites: Faz Gostoso, Bitch I'm loca
