Arduino UNO R3 Board Components Explanation

In this video, I unbox a new Arduino UNO R3 and explain all of the main parts and components on the board. After watching, you will recognize each component and know it's purpose. The Arduino is available with the ATMEGA 328 as a DIP (Dual In-line Package), or as SMD (Surface Mount Device). Both offer great versatility in a small package.

This explanation can improved quite a bit. I am a self-electronics hobbyist who has programmed the atmega328p mcu with baremetal C code (no arduino libraries, little to no avr libraries).

The arduino uno board has the following features:
1. DC jack port where you can connect a 7V-12V (ideally choose around 9V if its arduino uno clone) AC/DC adapter if you ever want to power the board through your wall outlet or with a battery.

2. Alternatively, you can power your board via the USB port. This USB port also provides the connection for you to upload your code to the Arduino using the bootloader thats been programmed to some section of the atmega328p flash memory. You can program it by loading sketches in the Arduino IDE or using avrdude to load .elf files (or some other suitable executable file format) compiled from C/C++ source files.

3. Aside from uploading code via USB, you can program the mcu by connecting an external avr programmer hardware to the ICSP (in-circuit serial programmer) pins of the arduino board.
4. As a last option, you also have SPI (serial peripheral interface) pins which can be used (as a last ditch effort) to reprogram the mcu.

5. The reset button, when pushed, basically pulls the NRST pin of the mcu to a LOW state. This causes the processor to reset and start code execution from the beginning of your code, wherever that may be. However, its more accurate to that say that the processor resets to some predefined PC (program counter) value and starts executing opcodes from there.
