"What is a therian"
Therian (th-ear-e-an)
Word: Noun

THERIAN.
A person who identifies as a non-human animal on a psychological or spiritual level based on animilastic urges and/or behaviours.

"Can you choose to be a therian/choose your theriotype?"
No, like gender and sexuality, it is strictly an identity that you can discover in yourself.

"How do i find out if im a therian/what my theriotype is?"
Based on animalsitic behaviours/urges. Example: The urge to bite, hunt, or jump.
Many therians also experience mental shifts, which is an experience in which an individuals mind may be more animalstic. Or phantom shifts, in which you feel like you have the limbs of your theriotype. Also dream shifts, wjere you are your theriotype in your dream.

"Do all therians have past lives"
No. Past lives is normally from the spiritual therians.

"Why do therians wear/make gear? And what is it?"
Gear is an object/accessorie that many therians use to feel more like their theriotype.
Some examlpes of gear is: Collars, masks, hair clips, painted rocks, necklaces, art, objects of relation.

"Is being a therian a mental disorder?"
No. It is an identity similar to your gender and sexuality. However, therianthropy can cause depression and anxiety because of species dysphoria.

"What is species dysphoria?"
Species dysphoria, similar to gender dysphoria, is when an individual experiences feelings regarding their species. The individual will tend to look at themselves or their theriotypes and feel a strong want to be their theriotype. Species dysphoria, if severe enough, can cause depression and anxiety.

"Do therians use litter boxes or leashes?"
No therians do not use litter boxes. And if you believed the rumour, you are rather naïve, as the rumour stemmed because some schools have litter boxes incase of school shootings, or service animals. Though some therians may wear collars or leads because it feels more affirming of their identity for them.

"What is qaudrobics?"
Quadrobics is a sport in which people run on all fours (hence the word qauds), normally to race. Though many therians do this sport as it feels affirming of their identity.

"Whats the difference between therians and furries?"
Unlike therians, furries do not identify as the animal they dress up as. Furries are merely people who take interest in anthropomorphic animals and wear costumes.

"Are therians zoophiles?"
No. Therians do not use their identity as an excuse to do acts like that. And many therians are against and hate zoophiles.

"What is the difference between psychological therians and spiritual therians?"
Spirtual therians tend to believe in past lives, and may use methods such as meditation to connect to their past life. Psychological therians are more mind based, and may have a harder time figuring out their theriotype.

"How specific can the identit get?"
Very. You can go as far as figuring out exact species, pelt colour, skin colour, eye colour, if its albino or has some other sort of colour variation. But not all therians can figure out all of that, and may only be able to figure out what family theyre apart of.

Terms:

Theriotype - The animal a therian identifies as

Gear - objects/accessories that therians use to help affirm their identity

Qaidrobics - a sport

Zoophile - a person who is attracted to animals in an nsfw manner

Alterhuamn - a person who identifies as something other than an animal

Plantkin - an individual who identifies as a plant

Fictionkin - and individual who identifies as a fiction shown being, such as a character-specific type such as sonic the hedgehog. Or a fictionial species such as an ork or vampire


Otherhearted - identifying WITH a creature instead of AS a creature. Example: dragon-hearted

Otherkin - identifying as a fictional creature such as a dragon

Were - an old term that used to be used to refer to therianthropes, derived drom were-wolves. This term is rarely used

Coping-links - people who choose to identify as an animal or creature to help cope with depression, anxiety, trauma, or day-to-day struggles. It is NOT the same as therianthrope or otherkin

Polytherian - having more than one theriotype

Cladotherian - indentifying as a whole group rather than a specific species. Example: identifying as a bird rather than a crow or magpie

Contherian - a therian whos animal and human side are intertwined and dont experience shifts as they are constantly stable on both sides

Awakening - the process of someone discovering and realizing that they are an alterhuman

Anti - someone who is actively against alterhumans, and tend to seek out content created by alterhumans to ridicule and hate on them

SHIFTING: feeling, sensing and/or having a experience that relates to their non-human identity for a long period of time. Not all alterhuamns experience this.

Mental shift - when a persons mind changes to be more like their kintypes, and may think and act more like their kintype

Phantom shift - when an alterhumans limbs change to feel more like their kintypes

Astral shifting - experiencing an out of body experience and travels to another world or spiritual plane as their kintype. More often experience as a spiritual type alterhuman

Aura shift - when the auric or energy field around an individual changes to one of their kin type

Berserker/feral shifting - When an individual loses full control of their body/mind and becomes more like their kintype. This is normally seen as a mental disorder different from alterhumanity.

Sensory shift - when a persons senses change to fit that of their kintype, causing their senses to be duller or stronger

Volentary shifting - when a person consciously makes themsleves shift by listening to music, meditation, or by other means

Involentary shift - when a person unconsciously shifts
