Hi Roger,
I think most os the salmon taste like crap sort of thing came about because the people catching them weren’t looking after them - if you leave any fish in a bucket out in the sun it will deteriorate quickly . I use a 2lt cordial bottle filled with water and frozen to keep my fish cool by part filling the bucket with sea water and putting the cordial bottle in the middle and i then place my fish in head first around the bottle . It doesn’t take long for the frozen bottle to cool the water down and i can also use it as a drink bottle . Sure it is an extra 2 kg to lug down the beach but as i can use it to cool the fish and drink its contents if i get thirsty i feel it worthwhile.
Don’t Forget the fishcakes, once made they can be frozen and make a nice meal when the weather turns bad and you can’t get out for a fish !
The frames also make good crab baits !

It would've been really nice if you'd invited the lonely dude up the beach to fish with you guys. Can I also say your voice reminds me so much of Neil Perry. Great vid and just remember to always be kind.

I've been saying the same thing for years, they're a great eating fish. Used to catch heaps up along the NSW coast on new years camping trips

I haven't fished in like 25 years. I'm finally getting back into it, and I had no idea how little I actually know about fishing.
I've been watching a lot of videos and yours are very helpful.

Same thing happens here, plenty of good eating fish but some species are deemed "no good", besides with that beer batter if yours I'll bet anything tastes even better, ty for the video Roger.

Just yesterday I caught a 62cm Australia Salmon and I released it back into the ocean on the knowledge I learnt from my Dad and Grandfather about Aussie Salmon not that great to eat. After watching this great video I will be inclined to keep my next 60cm plus Aussie Salmon, thank you.

Just found this channel and subscribed. Just wanted to say how nice it is to watch a fair dinkum video for a change instead of a show pony exercise.
Well done!!

Possibly the most authentic fishing videos I've come across. You constantly inspire me to keep it simple and to just enjoy the process. I can now catch beach worms thanks to you.

Thank you for the great video full of enthusiasm!! I'm a retired fish Pathologist here in Oregon, and they don't look like any Salmonid, or more specifically of the genus Oncorhynchus, but if you like to call them salmon, who would want to argue!! I bet they taste like good redtail Sea Perch, here!!

Hello Roger, another great video. You are the only person that I know that starts with the basics of surf fishing and goes through everything that somebody fishing in the surf for the first time needs to know, most videos from others are about the fish they catch not about "how to" . The best of luck with your channel. Regards Kevin

Great info mate. Not sure if I mentioned it before but I fish Kilcunda and Inverloch beaches. I’ve caught salmon all year round and love the fight they put up. A few weeks back I was at Kilcunda and a huge flock of seagulls were feeding on white bait within casting distance. Salmon were pretty much everywhere!

I pulled in 8 in quick succession on a metal spoon setup. Biggest was near 4kg so I was wrapped.

Tight lines 🐟🐟
