What Kobe Said About His Father Will Make You SAD

Kobe Bryant talks about his relationship with his father, Joe Bryant. Hopefully they made amends. This is from December 9, 2014.

Excerpt from 'Joe Bryant seen for the first time since Kobe’s tragic accident' blog post by Bruno Manrique:

Joe and Kobe were reportedly on the cusp of fixing a relationship that had been very rocky for many years. Kobe was seen hugging his father during a basketball camp in California.

“I just remember being with him up at his camp in Santa Barbara and seeing him hug his dad. You know how they loved each other from how they looked at each other, how they smiled,” said Wayne Slappy, Kobe’s former coach and one of Joe’s friends, said of the two men.

Kobe’s parents are reportedly “devastated” by the tragic loss of their son and their granddaughter Gianna, 13, who was one of the nine passengers aboard the helicopter when it crashed into the hillsides of Calabasas on Sunday.

Joe Bryant had been “all happy and good and talking about the gorgeous weather” the previous day, said a neighbor, asking not to be identified. “Then it switched in 24 hours where their lives were turned upside down.”

The fact that he actually voiced his thoughts speaks volumes. Kobe was fiercely private and was a master at giving superficial responses to questions attempting to pry deeper into his business. His honest answer reveals just how hurt he was over the strain.

When he smiled, he thought fondly of his dad, but when he spoke he stayed on code.

Kobe looked like he was about to cry. When you are hurt by the ppl you loved most, is a breath stopping, gut wrenching feeling..I’m sad for him😢

Throughout my life, I had a very difficult and acrimonious relationship with both of my parents, so I learned to be strong on my own and look inwardly for happiness. I am a father of three children two of my children are grown up and they’re doing very well my third one is very young. I spend all of my time with himto establish the best relationship of father and son could ever have

I lost my dad 2 years ago and it still kills me that I was more focused on my job than being by his side granted he wanted me to leave for work but it kills me because there is so much I should’ve asked but didn’t ask so much I wanted him to show me but he never got the chance plus I’m the youngest child which makes it worse..So if anyone reads this comment and you still have your father in your life soak up all the wisdom and enjoy every moment with him because when their gone it’s no coming back..

There’s always a reason why people are the way they are. Kobe was a loner.. didn’t really have much friends. I think his relationship with his parent had a lot to do with the person he became on and off the court. Perfect example of what happens when parents try to control their kids… unfortunately kids grow up and turn into adults.

Today is the day to bury any pride and anger !!! As we know life can be taken in an instant ! Open up communication even if you are right about something that caused a disagreement. Sometimes it better to be wrong then right ! Peace ✌ !

So many layers about this that although it is sad, I still can appreciate. I admire how real his response was. He could’ve lied & made us believe that everything was good with their relationship. We all go through the ups & downs of life especially when it comes to love & family. Rest in power KB 🐍 💛💜

What i respect most is that he doesn't try to air family trouble out. He did sorta mention how his family wanted more money for a house, but he did not want others in on the conversation. I respect and love my parents, but I don't talk about them when people ask me about them. often people tell them they raised me right. I may not agree with my parents but i will not disrespect them. You may have a mom and dad but you may not have them on your corner.

Children always get mad at their parents for not being perfect. But your parents did things for you when you couldnt do it yourself. Knew things about you that you dont lnow yourself. Remember things you did that you dont even remember. You are not here without them, and only them, and God

No matter what we been through. I always respect my father because he raised me and tried his best. Kobe said maybe later down that road but obviously thats not guaranteed.
