The tip about not engine breaking with the first gear was gold to me. I do this all the time and I could feel that the gearbox was not happy, but I couldn't tell why!

I've driven manual for most of the cars I've owned, and recently got another manual after about 6 years of not owning one. Watching your videos as helped me re-learn the more subtle aspects of driving the stick. Thanks for putting out this kinda content; I'm learning lots of new things too!

Super helpful and informative. My driving instructor asked me why I never engine brake and I told him I find it too jerky. After this video I finally understand why. I had just been slowly lifting the clutch rather than leaving it at the bite. Thanks.

I found this method somehow when I drive for 1 month after getting the driving license. Still remember when I went to driving school and I always press the clutch before brake then the teacher said that "don't use the clutch every time, try anticipating". This is really helpful for every new drivers but your tutorials are already very helpful to any drivers. Keep up the good works!

My driving instructor always tell me to hold the clutch at bite point when slowing down on approach to junction or roundabout. This confused me why press the clutch when i can use the brake to slow the car. But watching your video cleared my confusion and finally understood about engine braking. Thank you :)

Learning Driving at the moment. Comprehensive video mate, love it! The 3 camera angles really help a lot with piecing footwork and driving together

I started off using the engine and gears to slow down as I had seen other people do it, but my driving instructor pointed out, it is cheaper to replace break pads than a clutch or gearbox.

Very helpful as usual, You know it's weird really cuz every time you make a video it's one of my questions getting answered. Thanks a lot.

And thanks for sacrificing your car only to show us how the things work, not every instructor would do that. As Asian proverb says “Better to see something once, than to hear about it a thousand times.” So really appreciate the presentation 👍🏻🙂

Engine braking also reduces ware on the brake pads.

I just realised that after 3 years of driving, I'd been clutch braking and thought I was engine breaking. Thanks for the video mate! You've probably saved me a lot of money lol.

watching your videos inspired me to finally book an appointment to go and get my learners, so thanks for that, hopefully I'll be able to start using what I've seen from your videos in the real world soon

engine braking is very good for long downhill sections.
It's a form of dynamic braking - The faster you're going, the more braking force is provided. So it's good at regulating speed.
It's also good for preventing wheel lockup on slippery surfaces.
But when the engine braking _does_ overcome the traction (such as on ice) it's a strange sight... The drive wheel with the least traction will actually rotate backwards.
Same thing can be seen when you shift to park on an icy slope... The wheel with the least traction rotates backwards because of the differential.

Thanks for the very comprehensive video! I like how well you explain and give examples afterwards. Now I'm not just driving but learning what goes inside the car. It gives me more confidence knowing what I'm doing. Probably the best learning how to drive video i've seen! Keep it up!
