Never been to the Dark Side of the Moon, however, back in college we visited Venus with the help of Wapatully and Pink Floyd. Went to the 'Rock Show' on vinyl 'Wings' and found 'Werewolves in London'. The Werewolf would not "Speak to Me" and it was hard to "Breathe" on Venus. We were running out of "Time" so we were "On the Run" to "The Great Gig in the Sky". The Werewolves left London and joined up, it was just "Us and Them" looking for "Money".

Beautiful bowl. Always relaxing to watch the shavings peel off the wood.
The Spalting really made the bowl "POP".
Love the live edge. Difficult to get a full bowl of Ice Cream in that bowl 🤩🤗😎

The wood grain was Plane Sawn, meaning that the grain ran parallel to the face of the bowl. End Grain is when you can see the growth rings of the tree and the grain runs perpendicular to the face of the bowl. The wood looks like it came from the base of the tree, so it would be very hard and tight. Maine winters would cause the tree to grow slower than a tree from, say, Georgia, making the tree from Maine a significantly tougher wood to turn. I bet that was a bugger to turn.

"Not completely round"... LOL. Maybe it'll show my age, but I've always thought of Dark Side of the Moon as "New" Pink Floyd... yikes. Beautiful bowl, love that Maine Maple, it has beautiful grain and coloration. I love when you take light cuts to refine the surface and you can see light start to shine off the top of the piece; when you see that, you know you're getting a nice clean cut. FYI, most people refer to end-grain turning as where the grain of the wood runs along the axis of the lathe- mostly used for spindle turning; if you turn an end-grain bowl, when you look at the bowl from the top, you'd see nothing but end-grain, in the case of a whole log turning, you'd have the pith in the center.
