I'm so glad he's showing us how to replace a valve cover gasket in a car that's 50 years old.

Scotty, I am so happy a channel like this exists. Other people would make this video 20 minutes long, you get right to it concisely, 10/10, good show

Love Scotty's videos, very practical. I watched this one plus another video to see the actual valve gasket replacement. I wish Scotty had shown that part, but oh well, glad he makes videos for amateurs like me to reference

I watched one of your videos where someone changed a valve cover gasket for a client and client came back to you with leaks because they didn’t put weather seal. I had done the same thing on my vehicle few days prior following another video and even knew it was the middle gasket leaking (of the four on my 2010 Ford Focus). I redid mine with your suggested seal, and voila, no more leaks.🎉

@Mr420fighter I never use torque wrenches on such small stuff, I just get em hand tight with a socket and wrench. Scotty

Of course you showed the easy side. Can you tell me how you got the other valve cover off? That's the only one I'm having trouble with. I have the same engine as this one.

Scotty, just referred your channel to a friend, and he really likes what you say, and you make it fun too! Hope you're getting richer making video's than actually turning wrenches (work smarter, not harder)!!

Scotty, I didn’t see you actually put in a new gasket, only the shiny new valve cover!

most valve covers these days don't even need sealant, especially the silicone ones. But I use sealer on the old fashioned ones that use cheaper cork gaskets.

Hey Scott, what do you think about clear covers?

Do you think it's a disaster waiting to happen or does it not do anything at all

valve gaskets are on the top, just under the valve cover assembly. A pain to do, but just moving crap out of the way with normal hand tools. Head gasket is where the head bolts to the block, a GIANT job I would not advise doing except to really mechanical people with lots of tools and experience

you can use rubber without sealer. The price just depends on the car, some are 30 bucks, some are hundreds when parts have to come off like intakes.

Hey scotty, once replacing the valve cover gasket on the the engine, should we still use high mileage synthetic motor oil or go back to using regular synthetic oil?

Scott, Thank you again for this great tutorial. My car is 2000 Taurus, when I do the valve cover gasket(front and back), beside the gasket, what else I should put on the valve cover? silicon sealant? "Right Stuff". May you give me a little detail? I saw mixed information on the web. Some people say gasket itself is good enough. Some people say you have to add silicon sealant on the edge. What is your opinion? Thank you

@starbucksmunky It's spacious because it has an edelbrock carb on it now instead of the stock rochester piece of crap it came with. So no giant air filter box and all the hoses going to it. Scotty Kilmer
