Hari Om!
Swāmī Aparājītānanda is determined to help us enjoy the taste of well-known and well loved story of Dhruva tārā (the state attained by five year old child devotee, Dhruva) as per flavour of Bhāgavatam in a Vedāntic background. After prostrations to the Lord and Vyāsa Rishi (invocation verse), we are introduced to the divine, great lineage of Dhruva and to a transformative incident in his life.
Swāmījī observes the child psychology in Dhruva's attempt to claim father's lap and traces of perverted emotions and social way of thinking in step-mother's ridicule and reasoning. Father, entrusted with "jagata rakshā", but then under the influence of "Arjuna disease" (as well diagnosed by Swāmījī), could not protect his own child. So follows the pictorial description by Vyāsajī of Dhruva, filled with anger and revenge, reaching his distressed mother.
Swāmījī considers Sunīti as divine, best mother of Bhāgavatam and this portion as a beautiful tip on parenting. Her wonderful statements of ethical advice, right thinking ways, "living the preaching" attitude and giving persuasive and inspiring examples of respect worthy lives of sacrifice and Lord's worship are all heart-winning. Swāmījī elaborates on it in a manner equally befitting her peaceful majesty. He also points these out as firm indications of Dhruva and Sunīti attaining "Vishnuloka" in the end.
Verse 17 is described as essence of Dharma Shāstra. During the course and context of story, Swāmījī wonderfully explains what joys spirituality includes and how our real job is to correct ourselves and find the good even in an enemy.
We can very well expect more and more glimpses of picture perfect descriptions coming alive when voiced and Vedāntic ideas becoming sweeter than the story part.
(Dhruva - Talk 1 of 11)
(From Shrīmad Bhāgavatam: Canto 4, Chp 8, verses 7 to 21)
