You can't say that is the right way or the wrong way. Every situation will be different. Actually that is not the most efficient or fastest way. You should have used the foot or shin closest to the opponents body to avoid telegraphing and wasted movement which equals time. And to be most effective throw a straight punch at the same time to a soft target such as the chin. I think you should leave martial arts instruction to martial artists who teach it on a daily basis and who have spent their lives training in both offense and defense. Your instruction is just enough to get someone killed.

Of course they don’t show you how easily you can block that kick, not to mention you should never stand straight on to your opponent like that anyway. If someone grabs your arm like that you should know how to defend yourself immediately punching or kicking the opponent that’s grabbed you’re arm. You can also bend at the wrist with your hand and wrap your your hand and fingers around your opponent’s arm in a trap to control your opponent’s movements while you counter with a punch or kick. But to stop being kicked in the groin like that open your hand and bend your wrist where your hand at (you want your fingers close together and slightly bent in a arch for strength, otherwise the kick could bend your fingers back too far and hurt your hand too!) roughly 90 degrees to your arm and place your hand between your legs while shifting one foot turning your knee in towards you’re groin making your groin a smaller target leaving room for your hand between your legs to block the kick and you can then counter with a punch. You can also use arm lock if a opponent grabs your arm like that you can use to your advantage as well to grab opponent arm to either pull them closer or keep them from moving away from you as you punch or kick the opponent. I’m guessing they’re not familiar with a reverse snap kick either? You can also trap your opponent’s arm by pushing your hand against the center of the opponent’s arm ( extremely important where you place your hand to block your opponent’s arm) pinching opponent Arm against the opponent own body while using your other hand to do a groin slap just by cupping your hand and slapping the groin and immediately get back into your fighting stance or you can slap groin and grab ahold squeezing as had as you can and jerk the manhood towards yourself. Then immediately move into your stance. Unfortunately all these methods they show looks like their a efficient way to defend yourself and it may be if you can get your opponent’s to cooperate with you while you grab their arm and they’ll just stand there and do nothing while you kick them to do groin. Now as this instructor mentioned it may be a opponent’s reaction to try to bend down and cover up to try and avoid being kicked in the groin. But if you run into a descent martial arts fighter that’s been trained how to block and counter groin kicks or slaps that kick not going to work like this instructor trying to get you to believe it will.
If these instructors really wanted to teach people how to defend themselves then they need to show real fighting techniques where both opponent are trying to fight and defend against one another. Just slowing the moves down where people can see what their doing. Catch with all this though, unless you practice these moves religiously where these moves are a part of your normal reactions whenever your attacked out of the blue. You will never use them when you need to without a lot of practice sparring with an opponent.
But I am glad to see they finally did throw in a groin kick even though I don’t really agree with his method. Btw, if you’re reactions are fast enough, soon as the opponent grabs your arm and you see the opponent going to kick you. Just shove him backwards as hard as you can. Guarantee he won’t kick you when you throw him off balance. I know cause my martial arts teacher would push me off balance when I try to kick him at times. LOL Simple to do if your reflexes are quick enough? It’s much easier to show these methods then it is just to try and explain them! But to be perfectly honest, if you got a chance to run away, that’s still probably going to be your best option whenever possible. Especially if you have no REAL fighting training? But be prepared to fight when you have no other choice! Absolutely nothing wrong with punching or kicking then running either! Screaming can also draw attention to yourself and an opponent trying to hurt you not going to want witnesses watching. It could save your life!
