Houthis destroy $30-million US drone flying over Yemen

The Houthis destroy a $30-million US combat drone flying over Yemen after targeting two Western ships in the Gulf of Aden.

Confirming the destruction of a MQ-9 drone, the Pentagon said that “attacks are getting more sophisticated.”

In the last two days, the Houthis hit two ships which were identified as the “Sea Champion”, a Greek-flagged US-owned carrier and the “Rubymar”, a Belize-flagged UK-owned boat. The Rubymar was seriously damaged, its crew reportedly had to evacuate.

In response to the attacks and given the impact on the global economy, the EU said it is starting a “defensive mission” to protect Red Sea shipping from Houthi attacks.

But the Houthis said that the operations in the Red and Arabian seas will continue “until the aggression stops and the siege on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip is lifted.”

An Arab owns the corner store by my house and he is from Yemen. Every morning I go buy a donut and he pours me free coffee, we sit outside and talk about the daily news while customers come in and out getting their morning ready. He says that Yemen isn’t only angry with America, but with Saudi Arabia too, that they keep his people down. What a sad time we live in where there just isn’t respect between brothers, let alone governments. All over oil. He’s a good man and we respect each other’s views.

I remember when I was young, 9/11 had just happened. The store owners son asked us (me and my dad) for a ride to school. I told my dad don’t give him a ride because he’s a terrorist. I was 10 y/o at that time. My dad turned to me and taught me a valuable lesson that day. We can’t allow the actions of a few dictate our feelings for their people as a whole. I’m 32 now and since then, I have strong beliefs that every people, no matter race, religion nor preference, have good in their hearts. I was young and stupid, and I was easily influenced by the media. But it’s even sadder now that grown men who should know better, are swayed left and right like wheat in the wind. The beautiful USA where I was born and raised, now has people pitted against each other because of who is running for president. I saw the divide at the SOTU address. Where red tie-wearers and blue tie-wearers have strong feeling against each other. And it’s us, the average Joe and average Jane who are the ones who suffer.
