Aesthetics are hindering our scientific development. They just are. I have a thought that might explain why. E=MC^2, It's nice & neat. Everyone believed that they could be the next Einstein if they could see the beauty in Mathematics the way he did. If the wormhole = entanglement suspicion holds true then Einstein will go down it's just another Isaac Newton, a great thinker who learned how to use a simplified ideal that matches results we get from observations

As I see it, the standard model is analogous to the epicycles of pre-Copernican-Newtonian astronomy. It is descriptive but not explanatory. What's therefore desired by those still struggling with the search for a next theory is an explanation of why the standard model's description is what it is. This then is an acting out of our desire to have more control ability over the quantum world...to have more power, to be more like God Almighty. Hence, if we do find such a theory, we then become even more dangerous to ourselves and maybe even the whole universe, as lifeforms with far less wisdom than science&technology. Quite possibly though, there is no explanatory, "deeper" theory and seeking for it is a waste of time, but because of our desire to keep playing God, we will surely keep pursuing it anyway.
