That would end all upsets and miracale runs like the DRX 2022 and WBG 2023 runs. Professional sports/eSports should be high stakes... That's why the prize is so coveted, ofc humans can have bad days but a team like BLG not being able to close out two "weaker" teams isnt the fault of the format, they will have been given plenty of chances to advance if they cant win the next 2 series that is 100% their own undoing

Bo1, shit happens. Considering how long worlds take anyway idk why all swiss matches aren't bo3, that would be better for sure. And yeah, its been 10 years and riot hasnt been able to copy the objectively better format from dota that has been there since forever.

If quality was the focus it would be Bo5 from start to finish.
I remember few years ago (it was the year of ardent censer meta) where T1 played against an European team and lost the first 2 games before doing a reverse sweep and winning the series.
In Bo1 a team can have a bad game or the other team can have a really surprising strategy that catch you off guard the first time you see it.

What's the randomness about it.??? They are first seed LPL.. they got tier 1.. they have a "free" win getting bracketed with tier 4s for the first round.. it's not our fault they fumbled against LNG and T1.. specially against LNG and T1.!!! These two teams are supposed to be the weaker teams.. LNG is not supposed to be in the quarterfinals yet here they are.. T1 wasn't supposed to beat BLG because of how horrible they are these past few months and somehow they won.. that's BLGs fault for fumbling so hard.. can you really say they deserved top seeding if they got into quarters by beating really weak teams like Pain and GAM.?? No they have to face the stronger teams.. and they fumbled..

Im confused as to how Swiss does not do that. The worse teams fall lower the best teams rise higher. BLG will no doubt beat virtually any Western team or worse that they face. There cant really be any concern that they dont make it to knockouts. If they actually lose to a team that is seen as so much worse than them, then maybe they arent as good as people thought. OR the patch shift into worlds hit them harder than expected.

Just because a team seems like a juggernaut does not make them one.

BLG is in the position they are in because they lost to 2 teams they "should" easily beat. It's not a conspiracy, Faker is one of the worst mids in the tournament and he is going even with the great best chinese mid super dick gigachad Knight. Bin is supposed to be taking over games. Dom puts Elk and On top 2 botlane in the world so. Ofcourse Riot conspiracy is the take away. Not just the fact you only have LPL co-stream rights.

This is a dumb point. Its a false dichotomy. On one hand you have the competition, and on the other hand you have the entertainment surrounding the competition. Competitive integrity doesn't need to be compromised for entertainment value. Just because underdogs make it far into a tournament doesn't mean that the competition has lost its integrity. Sacrificing competitive integrity for entertainment implies that the competition or the draws are rigged to favour the entertaining outcome rather than the true competitive outcome. But in this case, it just seems like you are upset at the narratives surrounding the competition instead of the competition itself.

It’s true, baseball and hockey have better competitor structures but no one watches. At the end of the day, playing an extra 15 games to ensure competitive integrity is good for skill measurement, but that’s like 45 extra hours of content that dilutes audience attention

I think unless we get another WBG incident in the final, this format is pretty good, the only thing that it can do is to make a western team get to top 8 without deserving it, cuz most likely they will lose in the match for semi's anyway .
