Hi everyone! Today's video is about my May 2024 Wrap Up. I finished reading 6 books last month. Sadly, this was my worst reading month of the year so far. I hope my next wrap-up will bring something more positive. Let me know what you think about these books! And do tell me how many books you finished last month. Which one was your favorite book of the month? :)

My spoiler-free review of the books in this video is below.

0:00 Intro
14:51 A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles

I’m so glad that Return to Edan was a bright spot in your reading month, Petrik! Thank you so much for reading The Edan Trilogy and sharing your thoughts on the books. Your work in reviewing books is truly important in helping readers find the right reading experiences. I hope you’ll have a great June!

The Thursday Murder Club series will continue to disappoint you if you’re hoping for intensity and tension lol! You’re absolutely right it leans more cozy and the focus is on characters and their relationships and the mysteries fall secondary to that

Petrik sitting there in a shirt that gives jungle vibes, telling us he hates jungles, is the top-notch content I'm here for. 😉Sorry to hear your reading year is going so badly. Mine is a bit of a rollercoaster, March and May were good months, the others not so much.

Totally agree about Return to Edan. A fantastic conclusion to a trilogy that does not feel like an author's debut. I have a good feeling for the 2nd half of 2024 for you to have great reads to enjoy! The books shall not fail The Petrik!

Thursday Murder Club was a perfect character driven cozy mystery for me. And loved the short chapters!! It’s a cozy mystery, that’s the target audience.

Sorry to hear that it was such a bummer of a month for you, I hope June will be much better! Not gonna lie, the fact that you say Thursday Murder Club is too cozy and low-stakes for you makes me even more excited to read it.
But ayeeee, heck yes for Deathless!! I can't wait to read Herald either, I think that has the potential to become my favourite work by Rob if all things click into place like I am hoping they will!

Sorry for the rough reading month brother! At least the Edan finale was a big hit for you, and I can’t wait to read the series.

I have a 100% killer recommendation for you that I am certain will be a hit — it’s the Empire of Salt trilogy starting with Darien, by Conn Iggulden (under the name C.F. Iggulden). Those three books are so much fun and fast paced with lots of characters to love.

This seems to be common this year, amongst booktubers and viewers alike. I was just listening to a livestream where 4 of the 5 people mentioned feeling that they were having an off year and hadn’t really read many books that truly moved them. I feel that way personally this year. I have read many books this year that I will recognize are technically very good and even interesting but didn’t have that special feeling that I experienced with many books last year. The exceptions have been All the Pretty Horses and The Old Capital. Well, once more into the breach!
Happy (future) Reading!

Sorry to hear that! My May was not exceptional but all in all pretty good. I finished Mistborn Era 2, had fun with Murder at Spindle Manor and really liked The Judas Blossom by Stephen Aryan and The Silverblood Promise by James Logan (both 4 stars for me). As always I read some non SFF too, and enjoyed Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata the most of those.

The Broken Binding is doing Blacktongue Thief and Daughter's War as a bundle soon and I have no idea if they would be for me. But I might just try.

Bummer 😐 good video though 🙌🏼

I haven't started Edan but i do love Rob J. Hayes.

I burned through Alex Verus snd loved the whole series.

I started the Vorkosigan saga and Shards of Honor (Lois McMaster Bujold) is probably tied with Winter's Rising (Marc Tufo )for favorite in May.

Just want to say how much I appreciate Book Tube for taking the hits for me 🙏 your sacrifices does not go unnoticed 😅

My favorite book for may was Stephen King’s It, which was a 5/5 for me and now in my top five reads ever.

Hopefully June brings better adventures your way, I know I’ve got some excellent months ahead of me because BB Green Bone Saga, I’m so excited for this one 🙌

Great video, Petrik! Sorry you're having a run of disappointing books. I hate when that happens. And sorry you didn't like A Gentleman in Moscow. But I'm not surprised- it's VERY different from what you normally read. It's one of my All- Time Favorite books- but I mainly read contemporary fiction and literature- so that slow plodding pace is totally my jam- ha! But it's AWESOME that you tried it! I think it's important to try different genres, because you never know... Look at me, I picked up Red Rising a year ago at a book sale- and it sent me off on my Fantasy/Sci-Fi Book Project and to your channel- and I'm enjoying myself tremendously!

If you want a quick change of pace, a novel that can be read as a standalone, a fun MC, and a large world with many novels to go into, consider Brust's 'Vlad Taltos' starting with 'Jhereg'

Sorry to hear that Petrik! Always sucks when you have one disappointing book after another. Hopefully you’ve achieved your bad book quota for the year and it’s only upwards from here! ❤ Can’t wait to dive into Philip Chase’s Edan trilogy this year!
