“HOT PACKS” ARE A BIG PROBLEM WITH 2022 OPTIC HANGERS

Welcome back to Joe’s Card Stache!

This week I’m investigating 2022 Donruss Optic UFC Hanger “Hot Packs” You can buy these sealed packs on EBay for $60 and they supposedly contain a guaranteed auto. I’ll open one of these packs to see if there is an actual auto in it and how that can negatively impact the hobby.

sometimes the auto cards will have a slight bow to them, so when there upside down in the pack, you can rub your finger over the sides and feel for an anomaly inside the pack. i pulled a prism auto (James Krause red /99) because I felt the side of the pack and it was different than the others. Im sure there are other ways as well. Love the videos man, Keep em coming

Thank you for the information. This does suck. I've gotten my 10 year old son into the hobby and stuff like this pisses me off because it greatly reduces the rate of my son finding a pack that may have an auto, which he has never done yet, and he could care less about the value, he just has the love for collecting. Looking forward to some more great content on your channel.

I used to weigh boxes just to see if sellers can tell a difference and they can. There are two ways weight and the packing order. Topps Museum was the worse bc the hits were frames or booklets that weigh much heavier in the box. Thank you for bringing this to everyone’s attention. I wish I knew this 3 years ago.

There were issues with serial numbers in basketball cards where people could pretty reliably find a Kaboom - if there's a serial on those hangers I'd look into that. Not cool if it's the same deal.

Thanks for letting people know about this problem. I've opened a number of these and haven't gotten much (thought it was just retail being retail). Still love collecting/ripping UFC, but stuff like this is deflating. Will stick to singles for inaugural optic from now on

Weird, didn’t know this was a thing. I guess that’s the risk you run when you can feel the cards through the pack. While ethically kind of shady, that’s impressive they can tell from just feel, or is it serial numbers like the other sports? Good topic for this one Joe!
