I've been doing java for years and to be honest, this is the first time I see such a confusion in community. I mean.. when you have to create a YOUTUBE / QA session show to clarify how new version of Java is being licensed and now stuff works, says enough for itself. Its just not the right way to go in my opinion. Ok, so lets analyze the change itself... If the differences between Open JDK and Oracle JDK are so minor as they say... why even bother with 2 versions?? Wouldn't it be much easier and less confusing to have one version (public and opensource version (public jdk)) that would come out for free by default without support, and then if you want to support you can contact oracle and pay for it (to have a one big button on your website saying BUY SUPPORT and other one saying download and use java for free without implications no matter where you deploy it). Java is already dropping on TIOBEE index list, and i assume it will drop even more **sadly**

A better question should be: “Does anyone in the open source development community care anymore?”

There are so many good programming languages nowadays to choose from unless you have to maintain existing systems written in Java so I'm guessing hardly anyone cares anymore.
